The Finnish Navy has signed a contract with Kentron for the supply of Umkhonto-IR SAMs and associated fire-control equipment, to equip six vessels for their Squadron 2000 project.It is believed that the special features of Umkhonto-IR, including its multiple target and vertical-launch capability, outclassed the tough international competition.
The long-term support of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) made it possible for the SA Navy to become the launch customer of the Umkhonto-IR system to equip its Meko A-200 patrol corvettes. The SA Navy抯 act of faith in the local industry was instrumental in enabling Kentron to put together a credible marketing package to prospective clients.
The fact that Finland is a member of the European Union makes the selection of Umkhonto-IR all the more significant, and creates a solid platform for future marketing and sales.

Daewoo International Corp, a major Korean trading company, said Tuesday it has signed a $150-million contract to provide four warships to the Indonesian navy in what is viewed as a major step in boosting its presence in the naval technology business in Southeast Asian countries.
The four warships _ three common landing platform docks (LPDs) and a command ship _ will be exported to Indonesia from January for use by its navy in warfare and practice missions, the firm said.
The LPD is designed to transport troops into a war zone by sea using landing craft. It embarks, transports and lands soldiers and landing craft and can also be used for landings by helicopters.
Daewoo International said in a statement that the contract was a result of the know-how and capabilities it and its partners have built up in the military ship business. South Korea抯 Dae Sun Shipbuilding & Engineering has manufactured two of the LPDs and will give technological support to Indonesian firms for the building of the remaining two, Daewoo said.
LPDs are emerging as key military items for Southeast Asian countries for enhancing naval defense capabilities, Daewoo International said, adding it expects mega deals from other nations in the coming months.
Daewoo International has been playing a bridging role between South Korean shipbuilding firms and the Indonesian navy for exports of naval technology. The firm signed a contract worth $50 million in 2000 to provide a multi-purpose hospital ship and tug boats to the Indonesian navy. In 2003 it won a $60-million Indonesian military project to enhance submarine facilities and naval warfare capabilities.

Tang TNI-AL tu, aku rasa mmg depa perlu sesangat kapal camtu sebab, bayangkan le ada 13,000 pulau......kurang2 untuk disaster relief. hm..ade baiknya kita bagi tumpuan untuk projek NGPV nie dulu. especially untuk batch II nie. Rasanya dari segi persenjataan NGPV tu masih perlu upgrade, maybe sampai kelas korvet atau mini frigate. Kalau nak harapkan DP gun aje rasanya tak praktikal langsung. tu lah masalahnya, pembinaan kapal tu berkonsepkan 'can fit but not with', kalau berlaku konflik baru kelam kabut........... sepatutnya kita pelbagaikan penggunaan kapal tersebut..anyway lucky enough for us sbb tsunami bebaru nie tak effect lumut naval base. Tp kan, xlogikla kalau krew2 smua xdilatih utk sistem persenjataan kejap ade kejap xde tuh.aku rasa kalau dah ader 6 bijik (at least) utk training, some of it mesti dipsg ngan weaponry, pastu kpl lain plak psg,kirenya ikut giliranla supaya smua krew diberi latihan camtu.itu yg aku agakla.tp kalau nak ikut pdpt aku, kalau dah pasang jgnler bukak2..bangang nak mampuih ler kalau diorang xbg training:clap:..tup2 terpasang time war..mcm plug n play plak... tak logik??? tapi mmg tu la yang jadi skang nie. crew kapal plak bukan selamanya akan ade kat sesebuah kapal. dia akan berpindah bila sampai masa tertentu. jadi sistem tak familiar. saya pernah sembang dgn beberapa krew kapal tldm kd jebat masa hari terbuka armada, rata rata diaorg datang dari berbagai kapal lain sblum ini. n agak terkejut bila tanya sistem senjata kapal sebelah diaorg tak tau sbb tak pernah bertugas kat kapal tu, wlaupun dah dekat 2 tahun join tldm? pelik...:stp: training bagi seorang anggota tentera plak,dia dilatih bukannye sekadar tahu menggunakan tetapi dari semua aspek. kira kalau bukak m 16 tu kena tau pasang balik, in some cases kena blind fold. sume ni buat untuk memastikan org yang menggunakan senjata itu adalah yang terbaik!. takkan la nak training untuk 3 bulan pastu tinggal camtu aje. nanti bila dah jadi konflik dah ingat-ingat lupa. delay beberapa saat pun bleh tentukan kemenangan atau kekalahan..
