Actor Bae Yong-jun Introduces his Own Kimchi Brand in Japan
2008-08-19

Actor Bae Yong-jun will collaborate with Nonghyup Korea and introduce Korea's main staple, kimchi, to Japan.

Bae, who has been managing "Gosireh"--a traditional Korean restaurant located in Tokyo--since 2006, will begin selling "Gosireh Kimchi" starting September 4.

The kimchi, which uses only Korean ingredients and is made by Nonghyup Korea, will be sold for 600 yen per 300 grams in large supermarkets and Isetan Department Store in Japan.

Over the past two years, Bae has been working hard to promote the taste of Korea to Japan through his Gosireh restaurant. A "Gosireh Dosirak," a packed lunchbox that features 16 different kinds of side dishes, was introduced in Japan through the Seven Eleven convenience store and gained huge popularity among Japanese consumers.

Hallyu Star Bae Yong-joon to Open Korean Restaurant in Nagoya
2008-08-27

Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon, the owner of a traditional Korean-style restaurant called "Gosireh" in Tokyo, will open the second branch of the same restaurant under the name "Gosireh Hwa" in Nagoya, Japan on September 10.

The decor of Bae's new restaurant is different from that of the original restaurant in Tokyo, which accentuates elegance and luxury by incorporating the color black. The second branch accentuates the theme "fire," offering customers a wide range of grilled and stir-fried dishes to choose from along with a selection of Korean liquor.

The business hours of "Gosireh Wha," which can accomodate up to 80 people, will begin at 5:00 p.m. daily and offer unique services during designated "special hours."

Bae Yong-joon's Management Agency to Produce 'Drops of God'
2008-09-08

"Drops of God," a new drama series expected to feature Bae Yong-joon as the leading man, will be produced by the actor's management agency, Keyeast Inc. The company recently said it has decided to produce the drama, slated for broadcast in the second half of 2009. It will be the first drama production for the company.

Drops of God is a phenomenally popular Japanese comic series written by Tadashi Agi and illustrated by Shu Okimoto that gave birth to a worldwide wine boom. Keyeast Inc, which recently bought the copyright for the Korean drama version of Drops of God, said it is looking for writers, directors and cast for the show, which is scheduled to air in the second half of next year. It added that there is a high chance that Bae will take on the leading role of Itse Tomine.

The company said Bae, who is still recovering from an injury he suffered while shooting "Taewangsashingi," visits the office whenever he can to discuss the direction of the drama, and studies wine in his free time.

Bae Yong-jun Recommended for Cultural Medal
2008-10-10

Hallyu star Bae Yong-jun was nominated for a Cultural Medal and, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the actor's eligibility is currently under review by the State Council and president.

The Ministry of Culture has recognized Bae Yong-jun's role in introducing Korea's popular culture to the world through the Hallyu phenomenon following the success of his TV drama "Winter Sonata." Bae is one of 25 nominees for the Cultural Medal.

If Bae Yong-jun is chosen as the recipient of the honorable medal, he will receive the Cultural Medal at the "2008 Culture Day" event held at the Arts Center on October 18th in Cheongju, North Chungcheong province.

Established in 2004, the Cultural Medal is a government commendation awarded to figures whose invaluable efforts have paved the way in an area of culture.

Bae Yong-jun to Receive Culture Medal
2008-10-16

Hallyu star Bae Yong-jun has been announced as the recipient of the ceremonial Culture Medal. Upon hearing the news, the actor responded, "I will try to live up to the honor by working harder."

In an interview with Yonhap News, he said winning the award was a "great responsibility" bestowed upon him and--though he felt he was lacking in many ways--he would "work harder to introduce more of Korea's culture to the world."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism had recommended Bae for the Culture Medal due to his part in bringing Korean popular culture to the world through the TV drama, "Winter Sonata."

Bae will be receiving the medal at the Chungcheongbuk-do Province Cheongju Arts Center on October 18th, during the "2008 Culture Day" event.

The Culture Medal is a government award given to figures who have made a cultural impact through various fields. Lee Young-ae won a Culture Medal in 2007 for her influence on the Hallyu phenomenon with the drama "Daejanggeum."

Nintendo DS to Introduce Yonsama Hangeul Software in January
2008-10-21

Actor Bae Yong-joon's management agency Keyeast says it has allowed the portable multimedia devices Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Light the right to use the actor's face and voice for their Korean language education software. Under the latest agreement, Nintendo will release a brand new software program that allows users to listen, read and write Korean with Bae Yong-joon in January. The educational program will be divided into three levels so that users can enjoy a wide range of games according to their level of Korean.

"DS Yonsama," the prospective name for the new program will be introduced to the market through an internet shopping mall run by BOF nternational, the Japanese branch of Keyeast. The software will be sold for 5,000 yen and will receive pre-orders.

Keyeast says the demand for Nintendo's Hangeul education software is expected to be high. Some 22 million units of the Nintendo DS have been sold in Japan and it is considered a must-have item among women in their 30s.

Bae is currently planning to release a travel book and photo book about the "beauty of Korea."
