What do you guys like for a car?

Actually there are pro and cons towards normal driving depends on what car you drive either FWD or RWD or 4WD.

Generallyspeaking, for Malaysia, since we tend to have a lot of wet weather, FWDwould be better. Of course, 4WD/AWD is even better but it costs moreand adds weight so it is not practical for all small cars - and smallcars are the majority of what is sold and wanted here.

RWD isused on medium and larger models because they have the size and spacefor the drivetrain and can use bigger engine with more power, therebyoffsetting the penalty of extra weight that RWD has (eg from thetransmission shaft and heavy rear axle).

True, RWD allows you todrift but in everyday driving, how many drive like that? It needs skilland not every driver has it and in fact, for most, when a car's rearend starts to 'misbehave', they may end up in the drain.

Thecharacteristics of FWD - understeer - make them safer for the averagedriver. With FWD, if the car doesn't follow the turn and the driverlifts off, it will tighten up its turning circle so generally, it makesfor safer driving. With RWD, if the driver goes too fast round a turn,it may oversteer and the driver won't be able to get it back undercontrol. Some people do, by accident, but things happen so fast thatwhen they swing it back, it occurs too fast and swings the other way.By then, they have panicked and the car will likely crash.

4WDdoes not guarantee you won't crash and can actually be dangerous insome ways because it offers very good grip so you can corner at higherspeeds but at some point, the tyres will give up too and when thathappens, you get a 4-wheel drift which can happen so fast and needs alot of skill to recover from.

And if you do get it undercontrol, you must be prepared to prevent the car from shooting straightinto the corner too. In the early days of 4WD in rallycars, a Japanesedriver told me many drivers crashed because when they car grippedagain, it simply shot in a straight line where the nose was pointed. Soif the car was sliding round a corner and recovered grip, it wouldshoot straight into the corner because the grip from all four wheelswas so strong.

tapi bagi aku...
fwd dan rwd ni lebey kurang je.......

cuma aku benci 4wd atas asphalt... kalau main lumpur boleh lah........


kalau ko driver tahap bunta , rwd, fwd 4wd , 10wd.... ko tetap akan meninggalkan 13 orang peserta lain.........

ni nak tanya sket, korang yg vote RWD nie, pernah ke bawak RWD atau vote RWD sebab kes citer Initial D.

Cam haku, haku terlatih dan dapat lesen lumba ngan FWD. dan bila haku try racing ngan RWD, performance haku cam cilanat. handling is totally different. but when we are both on the track, both car perform at par.

in track racing, drift reduce speed. dah lar reduce speed, membotakkan tayar plak tu. kalau kena amik korner and we drift, kelebihannya cuma satu, we block overtake opening and still maintaing high rpm. selain tu, takde kelebihan lain. so kalau kita race side by side, sorang race guna amik corner guna concept slow in fast out ngan sorang lagi guna concept drift, dijamin 100% yg saper guna concept drift kompom kalah. tapi amik korner drift tu stylo lar.. nampak ganas.. huhuuhuh..

so, my personal opinion based on my racing experience, FWD lagi best. RWD dalam track racing kena ader byk pengalaman sebab tendecy utk overstear adalah tinggi.. lantak lar takbleh wat drift bagai.. haku bukan kaya cam mapiau asik nak beli tayar baru..

Yeahh....betul tuh....bang fast, haku suka FWD lagi...  
selain laju dan tak bahaya...
mudah kawal dan pantas mengambil selekoh...
time hujan kena hati2 sapa yg pakai RWD...mudah tergelincir...
AWD no hal maa....

Aku pun setuju kalau hujan air bertakung, lebih goyang RWD berbanding FWD. Tak silap aku, kebanyakkan conti sekarang pun dah tukar ke FWD, kecuali merc je kot yang masih ngan RWD.

yup agreed....kalau dalam track memang concept of slow in fast out, sebab in racing approaching (not attacking) the corner and have the right speed, position on exiting...sebab aku notice ramai tak tau track racing concept is about smooth and progressively.

Yup betul kalo ikutkan FWD ni dalam track easy to manuver tapi one thing i like about RWD dalam track is the turning point is much sharper and pointy but draw back dia itu lah kalau driver nak push to the edge sangat tu yang oversteer tu.

RWD utk yg suka buat drift!  Pandu kereta RWD dlm snow sucks big time. Hampir-hampir undrievable esp kalau ada freezing rain on the road.

FWD kereta stable.

Pro of RWD:
~ Ease of maintenance.. less crowded engine bay.
~ More durable.. RWD drive shaft out last FWD by few 100%.
~ Chassis more sturdy/rigid due to the central tunnel.. car handles better.
~ Smaller turning radius..
~ Better cornering traction at the rear wheel..
~ Better chassis weight distribution, makes cornering more confident.
~ Perfect for an occasional spirited drive when I few like throwing the rear around in the rain..

Pros for FWD are:
~ Cheaper and faster to build..
~ More efficient power delivery for normal use, thus better fuel consumption..
~ Chassis can be made lighter and more cabin space due to the absent of rear diff box and longitude drive shaft..
~ A better car to drive in absolute slippery condition like snow due to the front wheel traction.
~ Understeer is a major problem with FWD car due to the concentrated chassis weight at the front but getting out of understeer is as easy as lifting the gas pedal, whereby oversteer require exactly the opposite! Lifting gas pedal during oversteer will worsen the misbehave tail..

4WD system are safest in terms of traction, lower risk of vehicle losing control but the vehicle is heavier, more expensive to build, engine output need to drive additional gearbox, fuel consumption will be a little higher and top speed suffer big time.

Quattro ni mcm 4WD ke?
ada yang 4WD masa pikup je, bila dah top otomatik tukar ke 2 WD mode
rasanya Nissan GT-R n skyline yg ada mode mcm ni
klu all time 4WD , top speed mmg berat.

cthnyer..cefiro first model masuk enjin cefiro 2nd/3rd model...jgn cerita pasal mounting semua..nak tau boleh function ker tak jer....

uiks? ramainya yang vote FR? Beng tak pernah lagi drive cruising mahupun resing pakai FR...
Beng stick to FF jelah..pun ada kelebihannya yg tersendiri....kalau nak beresing pakai FR beng kena study la balik advance skill memandu keta FR tu dan cara nak amik apex bagai..serta bila masa yg seswai full throttle masa kuar apex....kalau tak kang melingkup sebiji keta sementara nak pandai...

Seyesly, bila sebut keta FR beng cuma bayangkan kete2 mcm RX7, Silvia, Fairlady, Supra bagai....tak terlintaih langsung avanza..

FR mmg sharp masa attack corner kalau betul2 nak push to the limit...but tayar cepat haus la sebab abused kaw2 kan? lelebih lagi lap masih byk......nanti lap2 yang kendian dah kurang tire traction.,..dah kena slowkan speed masa cornering.
