Iran Attack Strategy 'Is Ready If Needed'

The highest-ranking military officer in the US has confirmed the country has a plan to attack Iran - but it will not be put into action anytime soon.

Admiral Mike Mullen has confirmed there is a plan to attack Iran if needed

Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said a plan does exist - although he thought a strike was probably a bad idea. Such an attack would only be launched to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, he added.

The American officer has often warned that a military strike would have serious and unpredictable consequences across the Middle East. However, he also said the risk of the country acquiring a nuclear weapon was unacceptable. Talking to American television network NBC, Admiral Mullen said a strike remained an option if need be and the US had a plan at hand.

"The military options have been on the table and remain on the table," he said. It's one of the options that the president has. I hope we don't get to that, but it's an important option and it's one that's well understood." Both the US and Israel have declared in the past that the option of attacking the Islamic Republic must remain on the table.

Admiral Mullen's confirmation of a plan comes after an Iranian newspaper last week reported the country had set aside 100 military vessels to confront warships from the US or any other foreign power that might pose a threat. The warning builds on earlier threats by Iran to seal off the Gulf's strategic Strait of Hormuz - through which 40% of the world's oil passes - in response to any military attack.

Relations between the Middle East power and the West have cooled since the UN imposed a new and tougher set of sanctions on the country. latest set of restrictions aim to force Iran to comply with international demands over its nuclear programme. The US and EU fear the republic is enriching uranium to make nuclear weapons, despite protestations by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the programme has purely peaceful aims.

P/S Afghanistan sekarang sedang rancak digayang oleh penjajah-penjajah Barat seperti Amerika, Britain dan sekutu mereka yang lain. Sekarang mereka telah bersedia untuk menyerang Iran. Iran perlu diserang kerana ia menjadi menjadi ancaman kepada Israel selain dari agama, faktor minyak dll. Program nuklear hanya satu alasan utk menyerang sdgkan Israel telah membina program nuklear tanpa sebarang halangan.

Monday August 2, 2010Iran's Ahmadinejad calls for TV debate with ObamaTEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday to face him in a televised one-on-one debate to see who has the best solutions for the world's problems.

The provocative proposal comes as Iran deals with a new wave of international sanctions -- driven by Washington -- aimed at putting pressure on the Islamic Republic over its nuclear programme.

"Toward the end of summer we will hopefully be there for the (U.N.) General Assembly and I will be ready for one-on-one talks with Mr Obama, in front of the media of course," Ahmadinejad told a conference of Iranian expatriates in Tehran.

"We will offer our solutions for world issues to see whose solutions are better."

Ahmadinejad suggested such a debate last September, which was not taken up by Washington. He said Obama's predecessor, George W. Bush, had declined similar invitations because he was "scared".

Iran, the world's fifth-largest oil producer, says its nuclear programme is a peaceful bid to produce electricity.But its uranium enrichment activities, a process which can have both civilian and military uses, has fed fears in some countries that it is trying to build a nuclear weapon.In his speech, the president mocked the sanctions and the potential for a military strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, an option that the United States and Israel say they do not rule out."Who do you think is going to attack us? The Israeli regime? ... We don't consider the regime in our equations, let alone attacking us," he said."They say we'll issue sanctions? Okay, do it. How many resolutions have you issued so far? Four? Qatari PM Voices Strong Opposition to New War in Region TEHRAN (FNA)- Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim bin Jabir Al Thani stressed that his country is strongly opposed to any military action in the region, and called for a diplomatic solution to the Iran's nuclear issue.

Speaking to Aljazeera Arabic website on Monday, Sheikh Hamad stated that the government of Qatar is against military action since the region cannot sustain such a war.

"Iran is our neighbor in the (Persian) Gulf, and we have always underlined the necessity for resolving Iran's nuclear issue through diplomacy and negotiation," the Qatari official noted.
