KUALA LUMPUR (May 16): Iconic Medicare Sdn Bhd (IMED), a wholly-owned unit of Iconic Worldwide Bhd, is suing Jovian Apparel Sdn Bhd over an alleged outstanding sum of RM4.96 million in unpaid face masks supplied by the company to the fashion retailer.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Iconic Worldwide said IMED, which is currently a major contributor to the financial performance of the group, had filed a writ of summons and statement of claim against Jovian Apparel on May 13, 2024 at the Penang High Court.

Jovian Apparel is founded by Malaysian fashion designer Datuk Jovian Mandagie, who is ex-husband to Nina Sabrina Ismail Sabri, the daughter of former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri. They separated in December last year.

Jovian Apparel, which has been selling ready-to-wear garments since 2012, launched its own line of face masks at the height of the pandemic in 2020.

According to the statement of claim filed with the court, IMED had supplied customised face masks to Jovian Apparel based on the latter's specification and customised order under the Jovian RTW brand.

However, IMED claimed that Jovian Apparel failed to make full payment for the stock delivered, with a sum of RM3.16 million still owed for the face masks which had been delivered and accepted by the fashion retailer, taking into account warehouse charges and interest.

On top of that, Jovian Apparel had also placed orders for face masks which IMED had prepared, but, till now, has ignored or refused to provide a delivery schedule for said face masks.

The total value of the neglected face masks stood at RM1.80 million as at April 19.

Despite various attempts from the plaintiff (IMED) in demanding the outstanding debts, the defendant (Jovian Apparel) still refuses or neglects to make payment to the plaintiff," the statement of claim read.

Interestingly, Jovian in an Instagram video earlier this month announced that he was shuttering the fashion house, with all of its products up for clearance sale.

Shares of Iconic Worldwide, primarily in the business of tourism, property development and manufacturing of personal protective equipment, fell one sen to 10.5 sen on Thursday for a market capitalisation of RM169.76 million.
