Joko Widodo Presiden Indonesia Pertama Yang Metalhead?

Did Indonesia just elect history’s first metalhead President?! Jakarta  Governor Joko Widodo, who has publicly declared his love for bands such as Metallica, Led  Zeppelin, Lamb of God and  even Napalm Death, received  53.13 percent of the vote in Indonesia’s 2014 Presidential election.
We first reported  on the 53-year-old in May 2013 after Metallica sent the politician a bass guitar  autographed by Rob Trujillo. However, Widodo was forced to give up his prized  possession in a controversial decision after it was declared state property by  the Corruption Eradication Commission.
On Aug. 25, Metallica performed in Indonesia, and guess who was in the crowd?  Widodo wasn’t just enjoying the show, he was reportedly thrusting his fists in  the air in the middle of a “sweat-soaked, headbanging crowd.” “I listen to loud  metal songs, from Metallica to Led Zeppelin, to Napalm Death … because rock is  my passion,” Widodo told  Indonesian news outlet AFP before attending the Metallica show.
According to the BBC, Joko Widodo, who ran on a platform of “a decisive break  with Indonesia’s authoritarian past and better social welfare for the poor,” won  the Presidency after around 130 million votes were cast. However, Widodo’s  opponent, ex-general Prabowo Subianto has claimed electoral fraud. During the  vote-counting period, both candidates had raised concerns over irregularities,  but Widodo’s margin of six percent has been called “decisive.”
Subianto has three days to file an official appeal with Indonesia’s  constitutional court.

In this wonderful subculture of metal, there are always certain musicians we turn towards to digest their opinion on literally any subject. Veterans such as Dave Mustaine and Tom Morello are always ready to share, but perhaps the brightest spotlight of late shines on Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe. Always outspoken, Blythe just posted a blog celebrating the election of metalhead Joko Widodo as Indonesia’s new President.

When world events such as Widodo’s election happens, many think ‘WWRBT’ or ‘What Would Randy Blythe Think?’ Thankfully for the musician’s Instagram account, we’ve become privy to that answer on a constant basis.

In honor of Joko Widodo, who is a well-known Lamb of God fan, Blythe wrote two posts. Read his commentary, then check out the corresponding photos below:

Incredibly, ladies & gentlemen, the new President of Indonesia is a metal head AND a lamb of god fan. No, this is not a joke, yes the photos are real, yes he digs Napalm Death, Metallica, Megadeth, & lamb of god amongst others- holy crap! THE WORLD’S FIRST HEAVY METAL PRESIDENT! Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the governor of Jakarta & former furniture salesman who was born into poverty, has won the election. I do not know much at all about Indonesian politics, so I can’t comment of their political situation one way or the other, but from what I can tell, Jokowi seems to be a man of the people. Wow. A metal head president- who would have thought? AMAZING. I mean, can you IMAGINE it? This is THE ONLY PRESIDENT IN THE WORLD with whom you can sit down and argue about which Slayer record is the best. Holy crap, it’s too much! I want the Prez to take me on a diplomatic surf summit to Bali. Maybe I can get ambassadorial status. #jokowipleasetakemetoyourislandparadise

Rasanya tidak adil kalau kita mahu menilai Indonesia dari perspektif M'sia.  Sekalipun kita serumpun, nampak mcm sama tetapi kita berbeza. Indonesia pernah di jajah Belanda sedangkan M'sia dijajah British.  Mungkin saja kesan  pengaruh penjajahan memberi kesan kpd rakyat shng ke hari ini.

Nilai dn attitude Indonesian tidak semolek nilai/attitude kita M'sians.  Kena ingat, Indonesian/M'sian bak lubuk yg lain padang, lain belalang, lain lubuk lain ikannya.  Jumlah penduduknya yg begitu ramai dng pelbagai etnik melahirkan beraneka ragam sikap dn tanggap.  Kesusahan hidup dn perebutan peluang untuk mencukupkan keperluan menjadikan  Indonesian memiliki semangat juang yg kental, perilaku yg keras tetapi tetap pertahan jatidiri mereka sbg Indonesian.  Inilah yg tidak ada pada M'sian. Rakyat M'sia bernasib baik.  Kita tak perlu bekerja keras demi sesuap nasi bahkan nasib para gelandangan kita pun dibela oleh pihak NGO. Berbeza di Indonesia, mereka terpaksa mengais tempat2 sampah, mencari2 dan mengutip barang2 yg boleh dijadikan duit.  Bahkan duar ulang (recycle) barang2 terbuang mereka manfaatkan.

Pun begitu Indonesia tetap ada para profesional yg boleh mengurus negara mereka dgn cara dn citarasa Indonesia sendiri.  Mereka berkeroncong, berdangdut, berangklong, bergamelan kerana itulah jatidiri mereka.  Hari ini,
para pemimpin mereka sedang berusaha untuk memajukan negara ke arah yg lebih berdisiplin. Langkah pertama ialah dgn revolusi mental. Itu bukanlah satu perkara yg mudah kerana mereka dah tegal biasa.  Amalan korupsi mereka juga hebat shng ada istilah 'korupsi berjemaah'.  Amalan ini sukar dibenteras kerana sudah berakar umbi.

Di sebalik kejelekan yg kita nampak, Indonesia tetap miliki adat budaya seni yg halus, makanan mereka juga sedap, tempat wisata mereka juga historik, alamnya indah. Biarlah Indonesia dgn Indonesianya.  M'sian, kita harus jaga dn kekal dng keelokan M'sia kita.
