The inspiring story of a disabled girl who claimed the gold in the women's 100m breaststroke during the Para Games has won the hearts of many netizens in China.

Qian Yanhong, referred to by netizens as "basketball girl", lost both her legs in a car accident in 2000. To deal with the situation, she put half a basketball under her waist and learned to walk using her arms.

Qian began her professional swimming training in 2007 and became one of the first members of Yunnan Youth Swimming Club. She won three gold medals in last year's Yunnan Para Games and took a gold and two silver medals at the National Swimming Championship for the Disabled (Under 18) in 2009.
