Girlfriends Problem

Back when I was in high school, I wasn’t the
best looking guy. I guess I’d probably rate
myself a 6/10. My parents had just moved
house, so I didn’t have any friends and I was
quite lonely.

One warm Summer’s day, I was mowing the
lawn when a little dog happened to come
running into our garden. It disappeared
behind our house. I looked up to see a
beautiful girl walking down the road,
obviously chasing it. She was a 9/10. After I
helped her find her dog, I introduced myself
and we started talking. We had a lot in
common, so I got her number. We eventually
went out on a date and fell in love.

A few months later, a new girl moved in, just
down the street from me. She wasn’t bad-
looking. Maybe a 7/10. Being a friendly guy, I
decided to be polite and introduce myself. We
became friends, but she always seemed a bit
strange to me. I couldn’t put my finger on
exactly what it was, but there was definitely
something odd about her.
One day, she asked me out on a date. I
politely declined and tried to let her down
easy. I explained to her that it didn’t make
sense for me to go out with a 7/10 when I
was already dating a 9/10. That didn’t seem
to go down very well with her. When she found
out that I had a girlfriend, I could see she was
extremely jealous.

As the weeks went by, I began to notice that I
was seeing my girlfriend less and less, while I
had been seeing the other girl more and more.
Whenever we were together, my girlfriend
always seemed worried, as if she had a lot on
her mind. I didn’t think much of it at the time,
but in retrospect, I wish I did because I
quickly came to regret it.

About 4 days later, I got a message from my
girlfriend on Facebook saying that someone
had sent her an anonymous message
threatening to kill her if she ever talked to me
again. I couldn’t believe what I was reading.
That’s when it dawned on me that the other
girl was a complete psycho and was stalking
my girlfriend.

For the next couple of days, I couldn’t sleep a
wink. I was really freaked out and didn’t know
what to do about the situation. I was afraid to
call my girlfriend in case it made matters
worse. I was afraid to call the other girl in
case it made her do something crazy.
By the weekend, I still hadn’t heard anything
from my girlfriend and I was really getting
worried for her safety. I tried calling her, but
the phone just rang and rang and nobody
picked up.

Just then, there was a knock on the front
door. I answered it and saw two men in police
uniforms standing there on the doorstep. They
had grave expressions on their faces and
asked if they could come inside. We went into
the living room and sat down. They showed
me pictures of the two girls and asked me If I
knew them.
“Yes,” I said. There was a queasy feeling in
the pit of my stomach. I knew something was
extremely wrong.

The policemen told me that my girlfriend had
disappeared a few days ago. The 7/10 girl
had been found dead that morning. She had
committed suicide. During the autopsy, they
found human remains inside her stomach.
When they did a DNA test, they confirmed that
it was the remains of my girlfriend.
“Do you have any idea what happened?” they
asked.

I leaned forward in my chair and said, “I guess
the best way to explain it is that 6 was afraid
of 7 because 7 ate 9…”

Perfect Girl

One Summer, a girl moved into the house next
door. She lived with her mother and they were
quite poor. Her father had abandoned them
years before. She was new in town and found
it hard to adjust. Although we both came from
different backgrounds, she and I got to be
friends. We were not very close friends, but I
often visited her house and we would talk.
The moment I laid eyes on her, I knew she was
the perfect girl for me. Unfortunately, she
didn’t feel the same way. She was attracted to
boys who were handsome and confident. It
was clear that I wasn’t her type, so I decided
to wait.

She didn’t have any friends of her own to talk
to, so she confided in me. Mostly, she would
complain about her life, telling me how her
mother hit her, how the girls in her class were
mean and excluded her. She also told me
about a boy she had a crush on. He was very
popular with the girls in school.
As she talked about her problems, I just sat
there and listened.

One day, the girl stopped coming to school.
As it turned out, it was because she was
being bullied. She told me that one of the
popular girls in school had found out she had
a crush on her boyfriend. The popular girl and
her friends would bully her every time they
saw her. She said they even spread vile
rumors about her to the other classmates and
they were making her life a living nightmare.
I just kept quiet and listened as she vented
her problems.

Her behavior began to change after she
entered junior high school. She stayed out
until all hours of the night and began to
smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol. I heard
rumors that she was doing drugs too. She fell
in with a bad crowd and was even arrested by
the police once.

Her home life grew even worse and she would
frequently quarrel with her mother in the
middle of the night. All of the girls in school
hated her. Someone sprayed graffiti all over
her house, calling her horrible names and
saying disgusting things about her. Someone
even killed her pet cat and stuffed it through
her letterbox.

Eventually, the girl dropped out of high
school. She became withdrawn and locked
herself in her bedroom. She stopped speaking
to her mother and went for days without
leaving her room. She rarely came out even to
eat. She looked pale, sickly and painfully thin.
Her mother took to leaving food outside her
door. She would only come out when she
needed to use the toilet or in the middle of the
night when her mother was asleep. It was a
miserable life.

I went to see her for the first time in a long
time. She refused to come out to see me and
even though I yelled through the keyhole, she
refused to answer. Her mother gave me a bowl
soup to take upstairs to her. I caught a
glimpse of her when she opened the door to
take it. She was pale, drawn, haggard and
emaciated. She looked like a wet rag that had
been wrung out.

I went to see her every day. After a while, the
girl began talking to me through the door. She
told me how she was constantly fighting with
her mother and all of her old friends had
forgotten about her. She told me how she had
fallen in with a bad crowd and went out with
them at night, stealing, doing drugs and
getting into trouble. She told me was caught
shoplifting by the police and she had a
criminal record.

She told me how her mother tried to help her
at first, but when she wouldn’t listen, her
mother flew into a rage and beat her. Her life
had become unbearable. She wanted to die
and she told me she had tried to commit
suicide many times by slitting her wrists.
Just like the old days, she continued to talk
on and on and I just listened. Whenever she
asked for my opinion, I just shrugged or made
some innocuous remark.
As time went by, the girl’s mood gradually
began to brighten. She even decided to come
out of her room. It seemed like things were
getting better and the future was looking
positive. Her mother broke down in tears and
thanked me profusely.

One day, the girl went up to the roof of an
apartment builing in the neighborhood and
jumped off. The building wasn’t very high and
she landed in the shrubbery. That was
probably what saved her life. However, her
spinal cord was injured in the fall and she was
paralyzed from the neck down. The doctors
said she would spend the rest of her life in a
wheelchair.

When she got out of hospital, I went to see
her. She was lying in her bed, unable to move.
She apologized to me over and over and she
couldn’t stop crying. She said she wished she
didn’t survive the fall and told me she was
sorry for all the trouble she had caused me
and her mother.

I tried to sooth her and stop her crying, but
it’s hard to comfort someone when they are
lying down. I embraced her awkwardly. She
was weeping so much that her whole body
was shaking. She couldn’t even wipe away her
own tears.
As I held her in her arms, I asked her to marry
me.
She was like, “Really? Are you serious? Me?
Really?”
She couldn’t believe that anyone would want
her. I had to propose to her several times
before she would believe I really meant it. She
cried so hard, her tears ran dry. I tried to
reassure her and told her I wanted to marry
her was because I had always loved her.
She was the perfect girl for me. She always
had been.

Even when she ignored me and didn’t return
my feelings.
Even when she was hanging out with a bad
crowd.
Even when I had to listen to all her stupid
problems.
Even when she became so thin and was hiding
in her room.
Even when I told the popular girl she fancied
her boyfriend.
Even when I was spreading vile rumors about
her to her classmates.
Even when I sprayed graffiti all over her
house.
Even when I killed her cat and put it through
the letterbox of her house.
Even now that she is lying there in her bed,
small, weak and unable to move.
Even now I still love her.
You see, she is the perfect girl for me.
Soon we will be married.

Who Do You Love

Alleen was a pretty, thin, nervous girl of 15.
She was given to reading romantic novels and
taking long walks along the beach. She had
never gone on a date with a boy, never held
hands, never even had her first kiss.
One night, her mother was at work and Alleen
was alone in the house. She was lying on her
bed, reading a book when she heard a car
coming up the driveway. There was a crunch
of gravel as it stopped outside the house and
someone got out.

She looked out the window and saw it was a
boy. She had seen him around town before. He
was darkly handsome with a devilish smile
and the deepest blue eyes she had ever seen.
She rushed to the front door, put on the chain,
then waited for him to knock. When he didn’t
knock, she grew impatient and opened the
door a crack to peer out.

Boy: Don’t I know you?
Girl: Who are you?
Boy: I told you I’d come to see you, didn’t I?
Girl: I don’t even know who you are.
Boy: You’re cute, Alleen. You want to come for
a ride with me?
Girl: How do you know my name?
Boy: I know a lot of things about you. You’re
such a cute girl, I took a special interest in
you. I know your best friend’s name is Mary
French.
Girl: How do you know her?
Boy: I know everybody.
Girl: What’s your name again?
Boy: They call me Smitty.
Girl: You’re not from around here.
Boy: Sure I am.
Girl: Then how come I never saw you before?
Boy: Sure you saw me before. You just don’t
remember.
Girl: I guess I remember you.
Boy: I came out here especially to see you.
Girl: How old are you?
Boy: I’m your age.
Girl: No you’re not.
Boy: Maybe I’m a couple of years older.
Eighteen.
Girl: You’re a lot older. Thirty maybe.
Boy: That’s a crazy thing to say.
Girl: You look thirty.
Boy: I’m almost the same age as you.
Girl: Maybe you better leave.
Boy: I’m not leaving until you come with me.
Girl: I am not going with you.
Boy: Why not?
Girl: Why should I?
Boy: Don’t you want to go for a ride with me?
Girl: No.
Boy: Why not?
Girl: I have things to do.
Boy: Like what?
Girl: Just things.
Boy: Don’t fool around with me, Alleen. I don’t
mind a girl being shy, but I don’t like a girl
who fools around.
Girl: If my mom comes home and sees you…
Boy: She’s not coming. She’s at work.
Girl: How do you know that?
Boy: I know all about you. I like you, Baby.
Now what you’re going to do is come out and
take a ride with me. You’re my date tonight.
Girl: What? You’re crazy…
Boy: I can make you feel good. Nobody cares
about you more than than me. I know 100
ways to make a girl happy. I’ll make you love
me. You don’t know what that is now, but you
will…
Girl: Shut up. You’re crazy.
Boy: Look at you, all couped up in this old
house. Like a baby bird in its nest waiting for
the momma bird to come home. You need to
spread your wings little bird.
Girl: Shut up or I’ll call the police.
Boy: Why would call the police?
Girl: You better not try and come in here.
Boy: I’m not coming in there. You’re coming
out here.
Girl: If you don’t go away, I’ll call the police.
Boy: If you call the police, then I’ll have to
come inside and get you. You don’t want that.
Girl: Leave me alone.
Boy: You don’t want to get in trouble, do you?
Girl: Please leave me alone.
Boy: Look, Baby, if you come out I’ll take you
for a nice little drive, but if you don’t come
out, I’ll have to wait until your mom comes
home and you wouldn’t want her to get hurt,
would you?
Girl: No.
Boy: If someone set your house on fire, you’d
come out soon enough. You’d come running
to my open arms.
She was so confused, she couldn’t even think.
Girl: Where?
Boy: Where what?
Girl: Where are we going?
Boy: Just for a ride. That’s a good girl. Put
the phone down.
There was a ringing in her ears and she
couldn’t breathe.
Boy: I promise it won’t hurt.
She felt sick to her stomach and her hands
were shaking.
Boy: We’ll go out to the desert where it’s nice
and sunny and we’ll talk about precious
things. I’ll show you what love is. Come on,
before your mom comes home. I don’t want
her to get hurt. Now, come on.
She felt so weak, she had to lean against the
wall in case she would faint.
Boy: Your parents don’t care about you. Your
mom, your dad, they don’t know a single thing
about you and they never did. You’re better off
without them. I’m the only one who cares
about you. Come on with me.
She felt her heart pounding in her chest.
Boy: Now come on, smile for me. That’s a
good girl. Come out here to me.
She watched herself unlock the door and it
slowly creaked open. She felt herself float out
into the sunlight where the boy was waiting.
“Come on, it’s time for us to go,” he said with
a smile.
“But I have to get my coat,” she said as he
lifted her into his car.
“Forget your coat,” he said as he slammed the
door. “You don’t need it where we’re going.”
That night, when Alleen’s mother came home,
she found the house empty. She reported her
daughter missing and the police searched for
her for a while. They assumed she was just
another teenage runaway.

Her mother never gave up hope. She even
consulted a psychic who told her Alleen was
lying on the sand under a big tree next to the
water. Her mother left the kitchen light on
every night just in case Alleen decided to
come home.

Months later, the police stumbled across a
shallow grave in the desert. It was under a big
tree, near a stream. Inside, they found the
skeletal remains of a teenage girl.
It was all that was left of Alleen.
