Four-car trains make debut



KUALA LUMPUR: The Rapid KL Monorail Line started putting the first two of its Malaysian-made four-car trains into service recently, marking a new era for the service.

Each of the four-car trains can accommodate 430 passengers per trip, compared with 213 passengers for the two-car trains.

Rapid KL Monorail Line chief operating officer Abdul Hadi Amran said Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd was happy to put the two trains into service as they could significantly reduce waiting time for passengers.

“With the doubling of the train capacity, we are able to take in more passengers at one time.

“Passengers need not wait for the next train. They can comfortably board the train now. With more four-car trains coming in next year, our service will be even better,” said Hadi who gave souvenirs to commuters to show appreciation for their
support.

He said every car was equipped with four closed-circuit television cameras, newly-designed space for wheelchairs and strollers, and light-emitting diodes.

Hadi said two more four-car trains were scheduled to come into service by the first quarter of next year.

“The remaining eight will be deployed in stages. All 12 trains are scheduled to be in operation by the end of next year,” he said.

“Upon the delivery and commissioning of all 12 trains, the two-car trains, which have been in operational since 2003, will be decommissioned.”

Rapid Rail had also upgraded all its 11 stations, by installing universal access features and extending the stations’ platforms.

“We have also added a new wing at the Bukit Bintang station and an overhead bridge for direct access to KL Sentral Station from Nu Sentral,” he said.

Monorail has a daily ridership of about 65,000 and operates at 35 per cent overcapacity during peak hours.

Housewife Yusnani Yusoff, who was among the first to board the four-car trains, said: “Many people commute to Bukit Bintang every day and they need good transport. So, I am happy that we now have the four-car trains which are more spacious than the two-car trains.”

Marketing executive Nurul Nadia Abdul Hamid, 27, said, previously, she would give the ride a miss, especially during peak hours.

“The train can be too crowded with people heading to work, but now we do not have to wait for the next train as the four-car train can take more people at one go. I think more people will use monorail, especially on weekends,” she said, adding that she couldn’t wait for all the four-car trains to be fully operational.

College student Anissa Rifadiien from Jakarta said she was delighted to see the four-car trains.

“This new train is more spacious and more comfortable. We like it,” said Anissa who was travelling with her friends.

Her sentiments were echoed by Lim Eng Hwa, 62, who uses the monorail from the KL Sentral station to Titiwangsa, every Saturday.

“The new train is way better and more comfortable for the passengers.

“This will definitely encourage more people to use public transport while travelling around the city,” he said. By Nor Ain Mohamed Radhi

Kittie dah naik dah, dari hujung ke hujung. Dari KL Sentral ke Titiwangsa, then balik dari Titiwangsa ke KL Sentral. Yg baru ni lagi spacious la.

City hints at LRT, mulls
monorail cancellation




The city administration has indicated a plan to cancel the monorail project and replace it with a light-rail transit (LRT) system instead.

Jakarta deputy governor on industry, trade and transportation Soetanto Soehodho said during a budget meeting with the City Council’s budgetary committee recently that the LRT had a better system than the monorail and a larger passenger capacity.

“The LRT system could carry roughly 200,000 passengers a day if all seven corridors were operated. The LRT’s infrastructure would not need too much land acquisition,” Soetanto said to the budgetary committee members. The executive and legislative institutions are locked in intensive discussions to draft the 2015 budget.

The city administration, with the help of a city-owned firm, is planning to develop the LRT system in the city to provide quick, comfortable and affordable public transportation to ease Jakarta’s worsening traffic.

Soetanto said the LRT system would have seven corridors connecting various locations across the capital.

“According to our study, the development of the first corridor will cost roughly Rp 9.2 trillion [US$740 million]; Rp 7.5 trillion for infrastructure and Rp 1.7 trillion for rolling stock procurement,” Soetanto said.

He said the monorail project had too many problems to be continued.

The monorail project has been stalled for more than a year after its ground breaking last October. PT Jakarta Monorail (JM) plans to operate seven trains consisting of four to six cars. Each car can accommodate up to 198 passengers.

Meanwhile, budgetary committee member Selamat Nurdin suggested that the project not be realized in 2015, as it was still “very vague”.

“We should not fund this yet. It’s still very vague. I suggest we give the city administration Rp 1 billion to conduct a study and build the facility some other time,” he said.

Meanwhile, transportation expert Ellen Tangkudung said any mode of transportation would be ineffective if the administration failed to attract residents to switch to public transportation.

“The city should be able to integrate the LRT stations with other modes of transportation such as the Transjakarta shelters,” she told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

She said the only difference between the LRT and Monorail was the LRT’s larger trains, which would fit more passengers.

The LRT’s seven corridors

• Corridor 1 (21.6 km): from Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, to Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta
• Corridor 2 (17.6 km): from Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta to Pulomas, East Jakarta
• Corridor 3 (11 km): from Joglo, West Jakarta to Tanah Abang.
• Corridor 4 (9.3 km): from Puri Kembangan, West Jakarta to Tanah Abang
• Corridor 5 (20.7 km): from Pesing, West Jakarta to Kelapa Gading
• Corridor 6 (18.5 km): from Pesing to Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang
• Corridor 7 (10 km): from Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta to Ancol, North Jakarta.

Tiang Pancang Monorel Bisa Jadi Monumen Penipuan



Pelaksana Tugas (Plt) Gubernur DKI Jakarta Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama mengaku tidak akan membongkar maupun membeli tiang pancang monorel seiring dengan rencana pembatalan proyek itu. Ada sebanyak 90 tiang pancang yang dibangun PT Adhi Karya yang terbengkalai karena mangkraknya proyek oleh PT Jakarta Monorail (PT JM) itu.

"Tiang pancang monorel Adhi Karya didiemin saja. Saya jamin DKI enggak akan bongkar deh. Kasihan duit (Adhi Karya) hilang, nanti (tiang pancang) bisa jadi monumen mengenang terjadinya penipuan, ha-ha-ha," kata Ahok di Balaikota, Kamis (30/10/2014).

Dalam pertemuannya dengan jajaran direksi PT Adhi Karya pada Rabu (29/10/2014) lalu, Ahok mengaku telah mendiskusikan nasib tiang pancang monorel ke depannya. Ahok kemudian mengimbau kepada PT Adhi Karya untuk menjadikan tiang pancang monorel itu untuk kepentingan komersial.

Apabila Pemprov DKI maupun pihak lain ingin memanfaatkan tiang pancang tersebut untuk iklan, Ahok berjanji tidak akan menggunakannya secara cuma-cuma.

"Saya bilang ke PT Adhi Karya, tiang pancang kamu dikaji lagi saja untuk dipergunakan kepentingan lainnya. Kalau kami (DKI) mau pakai untuk pasang iklan, ya bayar. Kalau dipergunakan untuk light rail transit (LRT), ya kami bayar juga," kata Ahok.

Tiang pancang monorel yang mangkrak berada di sepanjang Jalan HR Rasuna Said dan Jalan Asia Afrika. Sesuai dengan audit Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan (BPKP), PT JM harus membayar sebesar Rp 204 miliar kepada Adhi Karya, tetapi PT JM menawarnya.

Pada masa Gubernur Fauzi Bowo, Pemprov DKI mau membayar tiang tersebut sesuai harga dari BPKP. Namun, Adhi Karya yang saat itu masih dalam konsorsium PT JM meminta Rp 600 miliar kepada Pemprov DKI.

Penyelesaian antara Adhi Karya dan PT JM tertuang dalam akta tertanggal 15 Mei 2008 dan telah diputuskan oleh Pengadilan Negeri Jakarta Selatan Nomor 617/Pdt. G/2008/PN.JKT-SEL tanggal 22 Mei 2008.

Putusan itu berisikan jumlah semua kewajiban yang menjadi tanggung jawab PT JM kepada PT Adhi Karya sebesar pekerjaan desain dan konstruksi 14.020,122,03 dollar AS di luar pajak pertambahan nilai dan bunga kelalaian 2.329.579 dollar AS sehingga total kewajiban bayar adalah 16.349.701,03 dollar AS.

Pada 7 Februari 2013, Kantor Jasa Penilai Publik Amin, Nirwan, Alfiantori & Rekan (KJPP ANA) telah menerbitkan laporan ringkas penilaian progres pekerjaan proyek Jakarta monorel per 31 Januari 2013, yaitu senilai Rp 193.662.000.000.

PT JM kemudian menawar membayar tiang-tiang tersebut sesuai dengan hasil audit BPKP tahun 2010, yaitu Rp 130 miliar. Namun, penawaran itu ditolak Adhi Karya. Adhi Karya kemudian kembali meminta BPKP mengaudit tiang yang mangkrak

Wah banyak uangnya untuk buat study banding (case study) di negara Jepang atau Europa.
