KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 — Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma)'s Youth wing has backed the authorities’ decision to withdraw support for Thirst 2015, claiming the event encourages the consumption of alcohol that it dubbed the "mother of all evil".
The Serdang police's withdrawal of support for the “Thirst: We are all Stardust” 2015 concert that was scheduled to be held at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre last Saturday had resulted in the cancellation of the event.
"Alcohol is the mother of all evil and will bring about bad effects to religion as well as the physical and mental health (of people)," Isma Youth chief Muhammad Lukman Al Hakim Muhammad was quoted saying in an article posted on the Muslim right-wing group's website.
"The concert would have only encouraged behaviour that not only goes against religion but can affect Malaysia's morality as a Muslim country," he added.
The Serdang police confirmed yesterday evening that objections from the public and Selangor lawmakers had resulted in the withdrawal of support for Thirst 2015.
In a statement, the police said that they originally had no problems with the application for the temporary entertainment permit for the concert by organisers Future Sound Asia Sdn Bhd on March 25.
“The MPSJ (Subang Jaya Municipal Council) had then rejected the application on April 6, although it was then approved with certain conditions imposed on April 22 after the organisers appealed to MPSJ.
“On April 24, PDRM (the Royal Malaysian Police) had concluded to not support (the concert) after receiving objections and feedback on April 23 from society, as well as the office of the state assemblymen about the concert,” the statement read.
But the authorities did not specify which state lawmaker had objected to the concert.
Konsert dibatal atas aspek keselamatan orang ramai - Polis
