What is it with ice queens and their sisters? The first full trailer for The Huntsman: Winter's War has been unveiled and it's double trouble for Chris Hemsworth this time round. The clip reveals Charlize Theron's evil Queen Ravenna - vanquished with the help of Kristen Stewart's Snow White in the first film - being resurrected by her ice queen sister Freya, played by Emily Blunt.
'Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is the most powerful of them all?' the British actress asks the enchanted looking glass, before unleashing her frosty powers and freezing the land. The trailer reveals it is Freya who trained Hemsworth and newcomer Jessica Chastain as children for her army of lethal huntsmen (a name that applies even to the female ranks). From the smiles the cute young doppelgangers flash each other, its clear they had feelings for each other from the start - which is unfortunately a big no-no where their ice-hearted mistress is concerned.
'If it's a fairy tale you're hoping for, prepare yourself for so much more,' the voiceover warns, and Blunt is shown summoning an ice wall to separate the two lovers. Blunt can then be seen making a pretty impressive arrival into Theron's vacated kingdom on the back of a polar bear, where she uses the power of the magic mirror to bring her big sister back from the dead.
Taking form in molten swirls of her beloved gold - and looking for all the world like one of her J'adore ads - Charlize returns to her throne with a chilling: 'We have much to do little sister'.
Mortals Chris and Jessica have it all do - weapon wielding skills or no - up against the ridiculously powered siblings, and one of the couple's comrades voices as much at the end of the clip.
'What are you going to do? Take on two evil sisters and their entire army?' she asks 'Aye pretty much,' the Australian nonchalantly replies with a trademark smirk.
Nevertheless his crossbow bolt en route to Freya's head doesn't make its mark and is caught mid flight by Theron. 'Hello huntsman - I've missed you,' she teases, adding even more confusion to the timeline of the supposed prequel. The second film was originally planned with director Rupert Sanders, who helmed Snow White and the Huntsman, in talks to return.
However, in August 2012, it emerged that Sanders was cheating on his wife with his lead actress during their involvement in the first film. Due to the controversy, the sequel was shelved and a spin-off film concentrating on the Huntsman was planned instead, which would not star Stewart. The Huntsman: Winter’s War will hit theaters everywhere on April 22, 2016.
