Farman Purnama is an Indonesian tenor born in Jakarta.
In early days he was trained by N. Simanungkalit, Pranadjaja and Annett Frambach, but later he took formal education in Architecture at Bandung Institute of Technology ( ITB ), graduated in year 2002. In August 2009 he decided to study classical vocal performing art at the Utrecht Conservatory the Netherlands, under direction of maestra Henny Diemer. He has achieved his master degree in classical vocal performing art last June 2015. Farman also participated in numerous masterclasses hosted by world renowned tutors such as Margreet Honig, Rudolf Jansen, Christa Pfeiler, Loh Siew Tuan, Ed Spanjaard, Nelly Miricioiu, William Mateuzzi and many more.
Since 1999 he has often appeared as a concert soloist for Batavia Madrigal Singers and The Jakarta Concert Orchestra under direction of Mr. Avip Priatna. Collaborated with this Orchestra, he has played in 3 opera productions;
as Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas in (2004),
as Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni (2005) and
as Samson in Samson et Dalila by Camille Saint-Saëns (2006).
In the Netherlands he has played in various opera productions, a few among the notable ones are:
As Iro and Giove in Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d'Ullise produced by Netherlands Opera Studio (Amsterdam, 2013)
As Ferrando in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte for the production of Dutch National Opera Academy with Residentie Orchestra Netherlands (The Hague, 2014).
As King Admeto in the Opera by Gluck Alceste (Utrecht, 2015)
Accompanied by Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa from Japan, in October 2006 he was the tenor soloist for Coronation Mass by Mozart in Macau International Music Festival in Macau. June 2007 he performed the tenor solo part of Carl Maria Von Weber's Mass in e flat major in Kanazawa Japan which was recorded and published by Warner Classic Japan.
Farman has actively performed and collaborated with Indonesian notable classical musicians aside maestro Avip Priatna, a few among them are such as Christopher Abimanyu, Binu D. Soekaman, Aning Katamsi, Iswargia Renardi Sudarno and Ananda Sukarlan. He has a deep passion towards pop music as well and had maintained favorable collaborations with the late Mr. Elfa Secioria. Until today he nurtures good collaborative relationships with Mr. Andi Rianto (Magenta Orchestra) and Mr. Adie MS (Twilight Orchestra). He sang in 2 popular music album CDs titled "Interlude dari Hati" and "Karena Cinta Kita Ada" (tribute to the legendary Indonesian movie director, Erros Djarot).
His very intriguing acting in musical drama was when he played the musical Sangkuriang, in which he played the full title role as Sangkuriang
