oleh kerana AO and FO passed by already for this year --

Men's Seeds for Wimbledon 2007

The fact that Roger Federer tops the seedings for the men's singles at the 2007 Championships comes as no surprise, since the Swiss world number one will be aiming for his fifth straight victory on the lawns of the All England Club. Also as expected are the second and third seedings awarded to Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick, in line with their world rankings.
There are, however, some significant differences in the remaining 29 of the 32 seeding places, in line with Wimbledon's previous intentions "to reflect more accurately an individual player's grass court achievements." This includes not only adding 100% points earned by a player on grass over the past 12 months but also 75% of the points in the 12 months before that.
Thus the player ranked fourth on the ATP list, Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, drops to sixth in the seedings, with the fast-rising Serb, Novak Djokovic, and the Chilean runner-up at the 2007 Australian Open, Fernando Gonzalez, moving above Davydenko to take fourth and fifth spots.
The Czech Tomas Berdych, who triumphed at the German grass event in Halle last weekend, vaults from 11th place in the rankings to seventh seed, one place ahead of Britain's main hope (and lone singles seed, man or woman) Andy Murray, whose fitness and availability remain unresolved because of a wrist injury suffered last month. Murray's seeding matches his world ranking, which has improved from 11th to eighth despite not playing for more than a month.
The biggest leap is recorded by the 35-year-old Swede, Jonas Bjorkman, in recognition of his feat in reaching the semi-finals at the 2006 Championships and the final at last year's Nottingham event. He moves up from 31st in the rankings to take the 20th seeding spot.
The next most significant mover is the Cypriot, Marcos Baghdatis, up from 16th in the world to tenth seed thanks to his semi-final appearance at Wimbledon last summer, while another beneficiary, and a welcome one, is the 2002 champion, Lleyton Hewitt of Australia, who improves his ranking of 19 by three places to 16th seed.
Unsurprisingly, many of the clay court specialists from Spain and Argentina find themselves seeded lower than their rankings, though a notable exception is David Nalbandian, the Argentinian who was runner-up to Hewitt in 2002 and a quarter-finalist two years ago.
Mario Ancic, the lanky Croatian who remains (back in 2002) the last man to have beaten Federer at Wimbledon, moves up from 23rd spot in the rankings to 18th seed, also on the strength of past heroics on grass, though his match fitness remains in doubt because of virus problems which have kept him off court for much of this year.
The draw for the 2007 Championships will be held at the All England Club on Friday 22 June at 10.00am (BST). |

Tennis: Federer lined up for Nadal rematch
LONDON: Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been teed up to resume their rivalry in the Wimbledon final after being named as top seeds for this year抯 men抯 singles.
Federer, who will begin his bid for a fifth straight title on Centre Court at the All England club on Monday, beat Nadal quite comfortably in last year抯 final.
But the Spaniard is widely tipped to push the Swiss World No 1 harder this year as he seeks to become the first player since Bjorn Borg to follow up a French Open win with a triumph on the grass courts of southwest London.
American Andy Roddick, fresh from claiming a fourth straight title at Queen抯, was seeded third while Serbian Novak Djokovic抯 good record on grass earned him the fourth seeding, one place above his world ranking.
British No 1 Andy Murray is seeded eighth, despite doubts about whether he will be able to play because of a wrist injury that has kept him sidelined since last month. Murray was due to appear in an exhibition tournament yesterday but will not make a final decision on his participation until the weekend.
Former champion Lleyton Hewitt抯 pedigree on the lawns allowed him to squeeze into the top 16 seeds despite the Australian having slipped to 19 in the tour rankings.
French Open champion Justine Henin heads the women抯 seedings ahead of Russian star Maria Sharapova. Fast-rising Serb Jelena Jankovic is seeded third, one place ahead of defending champion Amelie Mauresmo of France.
Serena Williams is seeded seventh while her sister Venus could provide dangerous opposition for some of the current top players as early as the third round after being given the 24th-seed slot, which is seven places above her current ranking in recognition of her past victories at Wimbledon.
Both the men抯 and women抯 seedings are allocated using a combination of tour rankings and a player抯 record on grass.
The seedings go to the top 32 ranked players on the respective tours. For the men this order is then adjusted on the basis of grass court results over the past two years.
There are fewer adjustments in the order of the women抯 seeds withchanges only sanctioned if a player is judged to have an exceptional record on grass, as was the case this year for Venus.

Henin tak sabar lengkapkan koleksi Grand Slam
LONDON: Tatkala pencabar utamanya baru pulih daripada kecederaan, Justine Henin tidak sabar untuk mengambil peluang terbaiknya melengkapkan koleksi kejuaraan Grand Slam di Wimbledon.
Henin dua kali layak ke final di Kelab All England, dan dua kali terpaksa menggigit jari sekadar menjulang trofi naib juara.
Tahun ini, pemain Belgium itu begitu teruja untuk mengesahkan kejuaraan ketika berstatus pemain nombor satu dunia, terutamanya sejak pemain ranking kedua Maria Sharapova dan penyandang juara Amelie Mauresmo bergelut dengan masalah kecederaan.
