Singer Gackt kicked off his first concert tour in three years yesterday. His fans tend toward the fanatical so they didn't seem to mind that the show started two hours late at the Misato City Bunka Kaikan. Gackt said he was a bit nervous after such a long break from performing and had let the rehearsals run overtime. He gave the first public performances of his latest single "Jesus" and the upcoming new track "Ghost," which is the local theme song for the U.S. drama "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." The tour is his biggest so far but the venues are fairly small, with a total projected audience of about 110,000 for 51 shows in 43 cities nationwide.

Gacktwas scheduled to perform a concert in Korea on May 18, but he has nowannounced on his website that the show has been canceled for financialreasons. He had planned to play at Seoul's Olympic Hall with a setupsimilar to his Japanese tour that started in December.
According to Gackt's explanation, the sponsors of the concerthave suddenly withdrawn their support due to the effects of the globalrecession.

Popular singer Gackt, who celebrated the 10th year of his solo career on June 4, kicked off his arena tour at Chiba’s Makuhari Messe this week. At the concert, he announced the “enlargement” of his name, from “Gackt” to an all-capital “GACKT,” explaining, “To commemorate 10 years as an artist, I’ve gone all big letters.”
The singer belted out a total of 19 tunes to over 5,000 fans, including his newest single, “Ko-akuma Heaven,” the attention-grabbing cover of which features the star decked out as an “Age-jo” (cabaret hostess). The tour will take Gackt to four cities and eight concerts, playing to a total of 100,000 fans.
With demand for men's cosmetics and salons increasing, people are becoming more conscious of male beauty. As a result, Oricon surveyed 500 males ranging from their teens to their forties, creating a "men with beautiful skin" ranking.
Teppei Koike was ranked first with his white, smooth skin and envious looks. Actor and musician Masaharu Fukuyama followed Koike at second while Gackt took third place in the rankings.
Gackt has already provided two theme songs for the "Kamen Rider" franchise, and now he is doing another one for the next movie. His new song "Stay the Decade Alive" will be used in "Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Double & Decade Movie Taisen 2010," which opens in theaters on December 12.
Gackt's "Journey through the Decade," released in March, was his first "Kamen Rider" tie-in as the theme song to the television series "Kamen Rider Decade." He followed that up in August with "The Next Decade," used in the movie "Kamen Rider Decade: All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker." He also appeared in that film as a character named Riderman.
"Stay the Decade Alive" is his third tie-in single, set for release on January 1, 2010. It will be sold in the typical CD and CD+DVD editions, plus a limited memorial edition that contains two DVDs and a special booklet with words from Gackt on the "Kamen Rider Decade" series.
GACKT to appear in stage production of 'Nemuri Kyoshiro'
In the 2007 NHK 'Taiga' drama '風林火山 / Furin Kazan', GACKT attracted attention by portraying the warlord Uesugi Kenshin from a unique perspective. ['Taiga; 大河' dramas are historical TV drama series broadcast by NHK.] Now he will breathe new life into the character 'Nemuri Kyoshiro'. It will be his first appearance in a stage production. They could also more specifically center on the Edo period (1603-1868).] It began serialization in 1956. It was adapted into film in 1963 and became a big hit.
