Da Dao
1930s-40s Nationalist (Kuomintang) soldier with the "Da Dao"
The new issue of Classical Fighting Arts magazine (Issue number 37) has a piece my wife and I did on the Chinese Big Saber Units of World War Two. It might be of some interest as these units were the last regular military use of a traditional Chinese martial art weapon (the Big Knives/Big Sabers, 大刀 )
Here is a display from a special exhibit put on here in Taiwan on these Big Saber units. Although the exhibit was in the Republic of China Armed Forces Museum, they need a history lesson. The historical mistake is that it is highly unlikely that an actual member of a Big Saber Unit would a. have a nice new uniform and b. have one of the British manufactured helmets. The Big Saber Units were known for being hardscrabble units. Nonetheless it does show a model soldier.

Philippine-American War (1899-1902)
Battle of Bud Bagsak (Moro Rebellion 11 - 15 June 1913)
The four-day battle of Bagsak Mountain on Jolo Island in the Philippines took place from 11 to 15 June 1913. Americans of the 8th Infantry and the Philippine Scouts, personally lead by Brigadier General John J. Pershing, brought to an end years of bitter struggle against the Moro pirates. These Bolo men, outlaws of great physical endurance and savage fighting ability, were well organized under their Datus or chiefs. They had never been conquered during several centuries of Spanish rule in the Philippines. The U.S. Army .45-caliber pistol was developed to meet the need for a weapon with enough striking power to stop fanatical charges of lawless Moro tribesmen in hand-to-hand fighting.
