The Five Percepts

1. I undertake the precept to refrain from killing living beings.

2. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking what is not given.

3. I undertake the precept to refrain from all sexual activity.

4. I undertake the precept to refrain from wrong speech.

5. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking intoxicants, which cloud the mind and cause heedlessness.



The Eight Percepts

1. I undertake the precept to refrain from killing living beings.

2. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking what is not given.

3. I undertake the precept to refrain from all sexual activity.

4. I undertake the precept to refrain from wrong speech.

5. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking intoxicants, which cloud the mind and cause heedlessness.

6. I undertake the precept to refrain from eating at the wrong time. (between noon and dawn)

7. I undertake the precept to refrain from dancing, singing, music, and unseemly shows; from the use of garlands, perfumes, cosmetics and jewellery that aim to beautify and adorn the person.

8. I undertake the precept to refrain from using high and luxurious seats and beds.
