Write Protected USB Drives
The common solution is to click on the USB icon in the taskbar at the bottom of your screen to remove the USB Flash Drive. Detaching the USB Key or Flash Drive is the critical procedure to prevent any further complication to the problem.

Then reboot.

Solution One:
Re-insert the USB Flash Drive, preferably into a different USB port than used when it was reported as write protected. Now, reboot your system once more.

The recalcitrant USB Flash Drive is now usually no longer write protected.

Solution two:
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management and highlight your USB Flash Drive with your mouse.
Right click on the mouse. Then select the choice that allows you to change the Drive number of your USB Flash Drive, taking care to use a drive letter not already used.

You should now see your USB Flash Drive on the Screen, and it will likely be working without being write protected.
