A rootkit is a set of software tools intended to conceal running processes, files or system data from the operating system. Rootkits have their origin in relatively benign applications, but in recent years have been used increasingly by malware to help intruders maintain access to systems while avoiding detection. Rootkits exist for a variety of operating systems, such as Linux, Solaris and versions of Microsoft Windows. Rootkits often modify parts of the operating system or install themselves as drivers or kernel modules.

The word "rootkit" came to general public awareness in the 2005 Sony BMG CD copy protection scandal, in which Sony BMG music CDs surreptitiously placed a rootkit on Microsoft Windows PCs when the CD was played on the computer. Sony provided no mention of this on the CD or its packaging, referring only to security rights management measures.

Rootkit tu lebihkurang cam malware yg sembunyi dalam PC tu yg tak terdetect by Anti virus sekarang. Kena guna specialised tools nak kill binatang2 tu. Soon sumer AV will have feature nak detect Rootkit tu (if not already). :nerd:

Nope... Pandasoftware (and ramai yg lain) takde cakap pasal tu kat main site diaorang - sebab tu akan tunjuk kelemahan software AV company diaorang. Tapi untuk menunaikan kehendak pengguna (especially yg complain), dia terpaksa kuar Anti-Rootkit software. So dia buat diam2 - released kat certain respected site and to customers yg call in mintak solution. Later diam2 dia will incorporate feature tu dalam AV dia. Maybe bila next upgrade kot... :hmm:

Kalau ko tengok link dia tu, memang dalam site panda antivirus tu... but not linked from other main pages dia.

RootKit adalah satu perisian jenis alatan digunakan untuk menyembunyi kan sesuatu prosess, file, atau Data Sistem dari Sistem Pengoperasian. Perkataan "rootkit" datang ke masyarakat umum pada tahun 2005 mengenai skandal penghalang salinan Sony BMG, di mana cakera padat audio Sony BMG secara diam - diam meletakkan sejenis rootkit pada Komputer Microsoft Windows apabila cakera tersebut dimainkan pada komputer. Sony tidak menyediakan sebarang peringatan di atas cakera atau dari bungkusan pakej, cakera padat tersebut hanya memberi rujukkan pada kawalan sekuriti dan langkah pengurusan.
