Sya minat baca buku. Tapi lately ada beberapa buku yang Sya beli, kurang menyengat. So, Sya tak mahu lagi membazir duit beli buku yang tak best di baca.
Siapa ada cadangan buku yang seronok di baca. Sya suka tulisan/cerita macam Jeffrey Archer. Almost semua buku JA, Sya dah baca. Sya cuba baca John Grisham, tapi tak larat nak pengabihkan sebab tulisan dia banyak sangat law terms/jargons. Susah nak paham.

tadik aku tgk oprah's book club ... dia buat book review on EAST OF EDEN by JOHN STEINBECK ... interesting jugak cara oprah menarik minat orang utk membaca buku ... di pegi ke hometown STEINBECK ni in Salinas CA and tunjukkan tpt2 menarik as described in the book .... sadly aku tak penah baca novel2 dia ni ... cuma masa aku amek subjek lit dulu ade la baca short story dia tajuk 'the chrysanthemum' ... mmg intriguing la jugak ... lagik satu novel STEINBECK in is called GIANT and james dean n liz taylor starred in the movie  version of the book ... aku penah tgk sekali ... panjang gilerk cita dia ....

setakat yg aku dpt tau dr oprah's discussions on the book , this a  saga of two family the hamiltons (based on STEINBECK's own family) and lagik satu family starts with a T (ni family fictional semata) ...pastu roughly ade satu karakter pompuan named Kate yg kawen ngan one of the hamiltons ni but slept with another hamilton on her wedding night ... kire mmg pure evil punye pompuan la ... bestnya oprah invite anak STEINBECK , Tom citakan characteristics bapak dia as a father and as a writer ....

seriously la oprah ni ... pandai tul menarik minat aku nak bace balik masterpieces ... lame dah aku tinggalkan karya2 berat2 n complex camni sbb jd romance junkie ... teringat aku masa aku baca chrysanthemum tu ... STEINBECK ni mmg enigmatic  ... karya dia mmg ade hidden meaning ... something related with his own life and he hid them so well sampai anak dia pon bila baca karya2 dia balik jd confused sbb dia rasa ade something yg mcm dia tak jumpa lagik apa bapak dia nak sampaikan kat anak2 dia walaupun anak2 dia da baca karya2 bapak dia berpuluh puluh kali ... igt nak carik koleksi STEINBECK ni la ...

For thrillers, I recommend Frederick Forsyth. Tom Clancy is boring because he's really into his gadgets.

Read and fully recommended to all

These books are memorable :

1. I know this much is true - by Wally Lamb (tebal ya ampun tapi before you know it, you'll reach the very end without realising ...very touching story of siblings
2.She's come undone - by the same author (second novel of Wally Lamb that i read, equally lengthy but very inspiring about sanity
3. The Kite Runner - by khaled Hosseini (sedihnya cerita ni abt migrant from Afghanistan)
4. A fine balance by Rohinton Mistry (depressing and yet beautifully written).

Lepas baca buku-buku ni, i feel that other books macam pale in comparison.

Major book stores like MPH, Kinnokuniya and Borders should have them or you could go to My Book Place di Amcorp Mall, PJ for a slightly lesser price cos its secondhand. Actually these are fiction but the background of the stories are real.

Saya cadangkan yang berikut, kerana bukan shj gaya penulisan yang begitu tajam dari segi penggunaan bahasa, ttp
juga krn plotnya yg cukup menarik :

Sastera Moden

Pearl S. Buck:

1) The Good Earth

Steinbeck:

1) Grapes of Wrath
2) East of Eden
3) The Pearl
4) Of Mice & Men

George Orwell:

1) Animal Farm
Alex Haley:

1) Roots

Untuk novel yang lebih kebelakangan, (for mass consumption!) saya pernah baca Grisham ... karya awalnya seperti
"A Time to Kill" tidak terlalu banyak istilah law. Tapi sudah give up lah...pasal temanya sama saja ... court room drama...
Archer pun baguslah ... yang saya ingat tu "As the Crow Flies" dan "Kane and Abel" mempunyai story lline yang kuat ...

The Broker - John Grisham

Not too bad. Takde le jargon/istilah yg melampau2.  Paling2 pun, masa watak tu belajar bahasa Itali, sbb dia kena sembunyikan diri kat sana. Sempat le saya belajar dua tiga patah. But it's a really nice book. It's about how the leading character (Joel Backman) 'disembunyikan' sbb dia banyak tau psl rahsia keselamatan USA. Masa mula2 tu OK gak, dah tengah tu buhsan sikit sbb banyak cerita dia nak mulakan hidup kat Italy, belajar bahasa etc etc....

But start dah pertengahan tu, start jadi OK. Ttg camne dia berusaha nak selamatkan diri, belajar cara nak survive, sneak out from Italy etc.  And John Grisham pun pandai elaboratekan ttg suasana kat Italy tu. So terasa cam nak gi Italy lak... kalau ada duitttt...

benda yg baik, kalau tebal-tebal pun, nak minta-minta lagi. benda yg teruk, walau sekadar 10 muka surat, terlalu payah nak melepasi muka surat pertama.

lagi cadangan:

Mario Puzo : The Godfather

ini memang klasik ... cerita tentang keluarga mafia

Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer is wonderful. Like the plot and the story telling is great. Not boring at all.
