Can't find wireless network icon

Hey guys need some urgent help. I have a toshiba laptop (MS XP PRO) with wireless interface networking.

I have made several tempts to connect it to my desktop(server) througha wireless router. The help/support on MS says that i should go tocontrol panel go to network connections and click on wireless networkicon and click view available wireless networks. The thing is I don'thave a wireless network icon to click on.
