Meet Mr & Mrs Mawi

It may have been a long, tiring day, but Mawi showed his funny side when he clowned around with his wife’s beautiful Swarovski-decorated gown designed by Putra of Cosry.

A time for some much-needed comic relief for Mawi and Ekin as his mother turns playful during the otherwise sombre merenjis ceremony.
THE grandeur aside, the wedding of the nation’s much-loved singing sensation Mawi (Asmawi Ani) and model-turned-actress Ekin (Nora’Asikin Rahmatwas) was really about newlyweds: the union of two souls in love.
“I vow to be a good and loyal husband for the rest of my life,” said the 27-year-old Kulai-born Mawi, after the akad nikah (solemnisation) ceremony at the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque in Johor Baru over the weekend.
The 100-odd guests comprised mostly the couple’s family members and close friends. The otherwise private affair was viewed by tens of thousands of Mawi fans who sat glued to their TV sets — the ceremony was aired “live” over Astro Oasis (Channel 106).
Later that evening, a grand reception hosted by Ekin’s family was held at the Johor Baru Municipal Council Indoor Stadium.
The hall and huge dais were decorated with some 15,000 fresh red roses, adding a sweet fragrance to the whole affair.
And if there was anybody who looked more radiant and dashing than the bride that evening, it was most certainly the groom who couldn’t stop smiling. Joy was clearly written all over Mawi’s face.
Indeed, the singer had never looked more relaxed and happy, not since he won Akademi Fantasia 3 some three years ago.
The 1,200 guests comprising family, relatives, close friends and fans were also entertained by performances by Mawi’s comrades from Akademi Fantasia, including Haziq and Akma.
The ever-playful Mawi was in top form when he quipped at the end of the evening: “It's been a long day and I need some rest with my wife...,” after the Press conference at the stadium, drawing much laughter from the journalists present.
