Polis turut mengesahkan suspek merupakan seorang lelaki warga Syria berusia 31 tahun yang mempunyai status pelarian di Sweden.


Jurucakap pihak berkuasa tempatan, Antoine Armand menggambarkan serangan itu sebagai ‘menyayat hati’ serta memaklumkan pihak berkuasa sedang melakukan siasatan menyeluruh.


Susulan kejadian itu, Perdana Menteri Perancis, Élisabeth Borne dan Menteri Dalam Negeri, Gérald Darmanin segera berkunjung ke lokasi serangan.


Dalam sidang medianya, Borne berkata, suspek tersebut tidak mempunyai ‘rekod jenayah atau psikiatrik’ dan mempunyai seorang anak ‘berusia lebih kurang pada usia yang sama dengan mereka yang diserang.’


Sementara pegawai pendakwa Annecy, Line Bonnet-Mathis pula memberitahu wartawan, kesemua mangsa berusia 22 bulan hingga tiga tahun.


Tiada ‘sebarang motif keganasan’ dalam insiden itu, katanya, seperti dilaporkan BBC.


Polis turut memberitahu, suspek yang berstatus pelarian di Sweden berkunjung ke Perancis baru-baru ini dengan meninggalkan seorang isteri dan anak perempuan berusia tiga tahun.
