Flightradar24 & LiveATC

Most of us travel by planes -- there are two websites which could be of interest, at least they make us more appreciative of how those planes are kept flying in the air safely.

The first site is Flightradar24. This is a live virtual radar of flying planes. Nowadays most modern planes transmit details about themselves, such as flight #, altitude, heading, speed, GPS fix, model, etc. These transmitted info are meant for Air Traffic Control (ATC), but there are hobbyists with receivers that can read these msgs and decode them. These receivers then upload the planes' details to Flightradar24 server for representation on their website. Click HERE to see this virtual radar over Semenanjung M'sia.

The other site is LiveATC. This site streams live conversations between air traffic controllers and pilots. You can listen to the ATC operating out of Subang/KLIA by clicking HERE. Once you get used to their lingo, you should be able to understand how air traffic controllers and pilots communicate.
