nwy..buang karen je blaja CAd 3D..sakit mate n pening..wlaupaun accurate..tp leceh..aku cadang ko pakai sketchup n den konvert to cad files..

aju setuju sekali...kalau betul2 nak learn 3D modeling...go for SKETCHUP..the best on 3D design software and very demanding in architectural & ID firms.

However, Autocad is a must is a must in arch firm for drafting purpose.
In order to learn Autocad, you must go to 3 levels.

Level 1. Basic AutoCAD-2D drafting
Level 2. Advanced-3D
Level 3. Custom/Programming

each course usually requires about 24hr credit in order to get cert. and cert. usually given by Autodesk if you enroll in Autodesk Training Centre.

for info, autocad software dont have anything related to symbols, arch. library, furniture. It is just basic engine for linework only, even 3D also just involve with linework, polyline or faces,etc. There is no auto in autocad.

However nowadays for architectural firm, the advance software to use is Autodesk Architectural Desktop. This software is using autocad as an engine but customize for architectural specific purpose, so everything related to symbols, furniture, wall, doors, schedule, elev, sect, 3D are included, and 3D also almost auto.

Other software promoted for architectural purpose is Revit, from autodesk also. This software isnt using auotcad as an engine but totally different way of working. It includes almost everything for architectural purpose similar to autodesk architectural desktop. Whoever familiar with autocad will find it awkward using this software since it is almost auto in everything and limit the way you want to edit your line work like you did in autocad.

For other 3D and rendering as one package...most architectural firms use Autodesk 3DStudio Viz. The interface is similar to 3D MAx, however, it is tuned to architectural purpose.

The other software to look also is InteriCAD. This software is using autocad as its engine, and it is fine tune for Interior design purpose.

For 2D presentation purpose that involved with lots of colour accuracy, you should look into illustrator, canvas or coreldraw.These sottware are good in colour but lacking the tool for accuracy.

Photoshop is totally different tool, and cant compare with the above software since it is only involved with image manipulation only.

In order to be good designer, one should know all the above software, and the conversions among are quite practical.
Usually the best process would be....

AutoCAD/Arch.Desktop --->Skecthup----->Illustrator/CorelDraw----->Photoshop

huhuhu..hope it will help all wanna be designer, esp in architecture.
