brand server mana yg best?

just curious cos ada member tanya sebab dia nak upgrade/tukar server Dell dia.... personally aku rasa Dell bagus in terms of price especially utk yg low in budget. tapi bila high end punya produk HP/Sun/IBM are superior. especially kalau ada special requirement mcm OS nak Solaris ke, HP UX ke dan sebagainya

so nak tanya forumner kat sini server brand mana yg paling best utk budget below 20k kalau nak guna dlm Windows environment. guna byk sebagai storage/file server utk company....

i don't know how much the price of a server in malaysia. but, based on currency exchange and the price of a server in us dollar, it's not easy to get a fully loaded server under RM25K. a fully loaded Dell PE 2890 is about RM25K, i think.

anyway, based on my experience and personal preference, i'll go with dell. dell has the best customer service (imo) and great onsite support. dell server also easy to manage. well, i'm of course bias on this as our shop is dell shop - we dumped ibm, hp and compaq years ago, and still need to dump some more.

for file server, i like to go with a fully loaded PE 6950. always think of future needs (plus it's not easy to expand the storage in raid). but, also depends on how much data you have currently on your server and how fast it grows. if not much, PE 2950 is more than enough.

another alternative is to buy a server (basics config) and get san for storage. this is much better, especially for future growth.
