bleh pesan high-5 kat hubby u x?
i pun ada sume buku Frank McCourt.
writing style dia i admire because dia sabar la nak describe satu2 event yg dia alami esp in the first 2 books dia tulis (Angela's Ashes & 'Tis)
i think all educators should admire his way of teaching and giving without asking anything in return

Bley.....no problem bila dia return from EM lusa. He was so taken by the first book that he read that he kept on reminding our son of the hardship Frank had to survive Ireland ....family was so poor....he had to wear the same pair of socks over and over....went to the US and joined the army .............no diploma blah, blah....Inspite of it all he became a successful teacher and writer.

I fininshed reading 'Tis less then a week. Poverty is not McCourt's affliction but  his strength. Thanks God I didn't grow up as an Irishman with rotten teeth and sore eyes in New York. Thanks to British National Heath Service.

Eh, tak tido lagi.

I like it when someone is able to turn something negative into something positive......measure of a man I might say.

i like this quote of yours because frank mccourt definitely turned his disadvantage into an opportunity.
perhaps itu yg buat dia cepat naik.
yelah, maybe the prospects of those times jadi tentera, he took it and when he arrived in new york with equipped soul he searched for more....

Yeah...must ask me hubby to write  more about McCourt.

Now is a time of plenty..............how do we educate our children? Only the other day my young nephew remarked that he prefers to live in the present rather than the past!!!

It's the changing times, red. If you could have it on a silver platter, why bother to slog ?? That is why. Slogging is only for those who don't have the platter to start with. So whose fault is it??

Yalah, many of us have made a better life or living standard for our family. So how do you explain to your child that he should slog for his daily keep?

setuju...
zaman sekarang kita dah disogokkan dgn kemewahan dunia.
sampai boleh pk 2 kali utk masuk lumpur + dirty urself.
i ngaku gak kalo nak baliik kampung pun siap bawak laptop, buku cerita sampai 2-3 bijik. hihihi

anyways, 2 mlm lepas baca balik word by word Frank McCourt's Teacher Man. skrg dah 3/4. hihi...
dulu selak2 jer.
tragic how he experienced teaching youths of NY in 1960s-1980s. racists, social class discrimination +respect + live values...

and his method of teaching should be adapted by teachers nowadays. bukan senang nak handle youths but in his case he did creative teaching so murid2 dia jadi more attentive in class.

In reality there are still those who need to slog............However, for many may find by not giving their all to their children until they really earn it would be a better way to instill the sense of value. "Easy come, easy go" they say. So if they had really struggled or earned it, they would look after it better.
