Ronaldo Admits He Learned How To Dive!
After years of allegations, denials, and controversies, Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has finally admitted in a shocking interview that he indeed learned the art of diving...
The FIFA World Player of the Year has been in imperious form for the last two seasons, but is still labeled a "diver" by many detractors who feel that his antics on the pitch are more memorable than his performances.
In response, both Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson have constantly refuted these claims, with the Scot going to the extent of saying that referees are influenced by Ronaldo's reputation, and don't punish any fouls committed against him. Ronaldo has always denied these claims too, and had done so very recently after former teammate Henrik Larsson accused him of the same. However, the United No.7 has revealed some of the darkest secrets of his life, and explained what goes on behind the scenes these days.
Talking to a Portuguese radio channel, Ronaldo revealed, "Yes, it's true. I have cut down on my diving a lot, but it is true that i used to practise it seriously, and I still use the method during big matches. I have been learning this from a tender age, and I don't need the practice any more."
Ronaldo went on to explain how he was actually trained how to dive from an early age by his personal coach, whose methods helped him progress quicker as a footballer than his contemporaries. He elaborated, "There were exercises, such as skipping over a wooden log and falling over, learning how to fall down without contact, and the classic hold-your-face-and-roll-over routine, but I don't do them any more."
He also pointed out that he has denied these allegations for the last few years in order to protect the other professionals involved in the practice. "I did not want to cause any harm to my fellow professionals, so I kept quiet all these years, but now that I am World Player of the Year, I think i can care a little less about them", he said.
In what could create a furore, the Portuguese international mentioned that there are several footballers, especially in Italy and Spain, who are practising the art at present. In England, however, there's a lack of talent according to him. "English footballers are more tough and mean, they lack the finesse and the grace required to dive effectively, and that is why I am noticed even more in the Premier League."
Apparently, coaches are involved too, but Ronaldo remained extremely secretive about their names. He went on, "I don't want to reveal any names, but I can tell you that a former Chelsea manager whose first name begins with J is involved in the training process." The European media is still figuring out who he is referring to, but we have our money on Jose Mourinho. This, however, will come as stale news to AS Roma officials, who declared before anyone else that Jose Mourinho teaches his players how to dive.
At the end of the interview, though, Ronaldo declared once more, "I am not a diver. I used to dive, now I only pass on my experience to young kids who want to be like me."
Isn't that what we all want to see? Professional footballers passing on their knowledge of the game?

WAYNE ROONEY has revealed he wants to follow the example of three of his team-mates by staying at Manchester United for the rest of his career.
The striker, 23, admits he looks up to his pals Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville.
The former Everton ace told Inside United: 揑抳e always said that as long as United want me I抦 happy to stay at the club.
"I don抰 want to leave. I love United and I have no reason to think about moving. I抦 sure I抣l be here for a long time.

Blog: Tale of three strikers
If goalkeepers are supposed to be crazy, strikers can, at times, be on another planet. Arrogant? Lazy? Selfish? Maybe many of these words apply to your favourite frontman, but one thing's for sure, if he's any good, he's a matchwinner and that's why he's so valuable.
Three strikers have been the talk of the Toon this week at Newcastle's St James' Park - a young Italian, a young-looking Norwegian and an Englishman who may well age over the next eight Barclays Premier League games!
On Monday night, the young Italian striker Kiko Macheda crashed three goals past Newcastle Reserves to bash his way into double figures for United's second string this term and enhance his growing reputation as a striker for us to look out for and for defenders to fear. In the last few months, he's mixed his Italian swagger with a new-found British grit and determination on the pitch and the majority of his goals have been beautifully taken. If he keeps his feet on the ground and his head in front of goal, he could have one heck of a future in a red shirt. I spoke to him yesterday and he was still grinning about his clinical treble against the Magpies and you can see an exclusive interview with him tonight on MUTV's Inside United (18:30 BST).
Kiko is clearly flourishing under the stewardship of Norwegian former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who, after forging a career of his own, is now helping United's newest batch of youngsters carve some out for themselves. Monday night in the Magpies' nest showed yet again that he is moulding a young and talented side together, injecting the right attitude and tactics that Sir Alex predicted would make him as successful in the dugout as he was on the pitch. His reputation as a coach is gathering momentum and his side's never say die attitude is winning plenty of points and gaining even more admirers. United Reserves' fans have been dining out on a staple diet of great teamwork, silky approach play and some very late goals, and the Reds could yet sneak into the Reserve League play-off as a result.
The final frontman to feather his nest at the home of the Magpies this week is one Alan Shearer. The Englishman has just become the fourth Newcastle boss this season under owner Mike Ashley and he has a task-and-a-half on his hands to keep the club out of the proverbial coloured stuff and to keep the fans enjoying their similarly-coloured ale.
Shearer famously never played or won trophies with United but he might help win us the title by beating Liverpool and Chelsea in the run-in. Good luck Alan! |
