<Toma's Loves>

Q. If you hold hands during a date?

I will start it. Would you ask "can I hold your hand?" I would never. It should be a natural thing.

Q. What kind of girls do you usually fall for?

A girl who has something that I don't. For example, the feminine qualities about her. I don't have particular act that I like but I life more girly girls than tomboys.

Q. If a girl cooks for you, what would you like?

Hamburg. Simply because I like it. Plus there is so many types of hamburgs, and it's so exciting to think which type she will choose!

Q. If you buy a gift for a girl?

I suck at stuff like that! If I choose based on my sense then I would just get confused to I usually end up straight asking her what she want. haha. But I am not stupid so I don't ask right before. I will do my research like half years prior and surprise her later. Wouldn't you like that?

Q. What's the "This is why you should go out with me" quality?

Nothing. haha. No but seriously. First, I suck at planning dates. I can't be romantic and take a girl to different places so a date with me would probably just be boring. lol. Couple days ago when I was doing a stage, I was talking about "the anniversary surprises" with couple staff and casts. Then everyone talked about all the romantic things they have done for their girlfriend but I had none. It brought me to perspective. I gotta try harder. haha.

TRANSLATION : The dream of living together with Ikuta-kun
(INTERVIEW BY PINK MARCH 2008)

揑f Toma抯 handsome face was close at hand厰 揑f you could see his smile at any time厰 Oh no! The passionate fantasies of handsome Ikuta-kun can抰 be abated. Even I myself am caught up in these thoughts, so I抳e decided to pretend we live together for this one time. Ikuta-kun, onegaishimasu!

[To smile together under the broad sky and enjoy youth (laugh)]

--It抯 morning~ What would you like for breakfast?

揇o your fantasies start from here~!? (laugh) Ok! So that抯 how it is. When I first get up, I won抰 eat immediately. I抣l blurrily watch the news, so during that time, please prepare breakfast (I want Japanese food). I basically like white rice.

TRANSLATION : Cool Trans March 2008

"I"m not really into style. Basically, I like clothes that are comfortable and easy to move in, the kind that looks okay without having to carry a bag. Although usually I chose to wear black colored clothing, in this photoshoot, my favorite outfit is the one on the cover. During vacations, I like to go shopping, but I usually just go to Shibuya or Harajuku. I also often go to select shops."

During this first Cool Tranz photoshoot of 2008, Ikuta Toma has been dressed very stylishly. From the styles that he would normally wear to those he wouldn't normally consider, Toma looked fashionable in every outfit. Simultaneously, he enjoyed the photoshoot itself, and was very concentrated throughout, not feeling the least irritation.

"I like creative locations. Today's photoshoot definitely was. When I saw the photographers and stylists conversing seriously, I felt that I should be serious as well, and my excitement grew. I think everyone is working on something that they thoroughly enjoy. For me, that kind of job is acting. I'm fascinated not only by stage plays, but also anything that shows "life is but an act". During the limited time of a drama, I would ask myself to what extent I can act, and my energy would thus grow powerfully. I'm like the type that suddenly erupts. Like if I were losing, I would suddenly turn everything around and win, and then say "See, you deserve this!" Because I'm basically that type of person."

For the past few years, Ikuta Toma has energetically participated in the entertainment circle with stage plays and TV dramas. Last year, he received Best Supporting Actor Award for the popular drama, Hanakimi. He's now watched for as an actor with talent.

"The drama itself was exciting, and the reactions were passionate, so it was a very important job for me. Usually, I would spent time with the other actors, and I would clearly reflect that sort of [energetic] atmosphere on screen. Because I've always believed that socializing with others would be beneficial for my job, the drama became very realistic. Because all the actors were young, I'd like to meet them again at another shooting location and be able to say "what have you been doing after that?" So I want to work hard as well."

Ikuta Toma's 2008 drama, Honey and Clover, is already airing. Supposedly, at the shooting location, Toma, Narumi, Osamu, Harada, and Narimiya value their interactions very much.

"At first, we thought it wouldn't be easy to converse, but after the first filming ended, we all cluttered our chairs around and chatted. Riko is the youngest of the five, and she almost sounded like she was scolding when she asked "what's your favorite food?" No one's really said it out loud, but somehow, the five of us end up coming together very often. That sort of scene seems to be born for Honey and Clover. Everyone says 'this is just Honey and Clover.'"

Ikuta Toma's acting as a plain, honest college student, Takemoto Yuta. A lot of people have already begun watching this. It can be assumed that many of this magazine's readers could understand the character that's useless, unable to decide his future, and lives every day with frustration.

"Takemoto is someone who doesn't know what to do now, doesn't know what to do with his future, and simply muddles through his college life. Although I'm the type that doesn't really analyze the similarities between myself and my characters before acting, I believe that Takemoto's situation has been experienced by everyone. After I read the script, I would start feeling like "I don't know what to do." No one can force an emotion. I wantto portray this through my acting, to reflect it truthfully on the screen. I wonder if the audience can feel it."

Ikuta Toma, an actor who will continue to be watched for in 2008.

"I love to listen to music, and surprisingly, I'm also a workaholic. Personality wise, I'm the type that likes to experience all sorts of things. This has been reflected in my jobs as well. Whether it's a drama or a stage play, I'd enjoy it, and I even want to try acting in a movie. I like writing things and listening to the radio. Thinking this way, my job becomes easier as well. It'd be great if I could still act with my friends and live happily when I'm 30 or 40 years old. Only, when I'm up against a wall, I might think 'Crap, what have I been doing!'"

TRNSLATION : WINK UP

(Recently, I've felt the results of dramas and change) After the bowling show [Nakai's show], a lot of people greeted me, like the upper level staff at Fuji TV station. Even though I lost at the last moment, I was still really happy. In the last few minutes of the show, Nakai said to me in a serious voice: "Finish it! Finish it!" It gave me a lot of pressure. (Laugh) After the show, I wondered if my friends had any reactions. But when I checked my cell phone, there was nothing. (Laugh) Due to dramas, my heart will often skip a beat when I walk on the streets. For example, some of my drama's posters are hung up at train stations. When I exchange glances with the myself in the poster, I feel very shy. (Laugh)

(Not losing to the cold through some very warm interludes) All I feel is very, very cold. (Laugh) It's truly painful to have to film outside in the winter. The summer scene [in H&C] was also shot at the ocean. To set of fireworks when it's about to snow...and I was wearing a yukata...even when I'm not wearing yukata, I'm basically wearing shorts. (Laugh) Disposable heat pads are stuck everywhere on my body, working hard. On the following day [after using the heat pad] I'd surprisingly discover already-cold pads in my pocket. Occassionally, I'd also find heat pads that still hold a bit of warmth. Ah, you're still alive...this makes me feel some warmth, I guess. (Laugh)

(In the drama, you're experiencing youth. What's a bittersweet youth memory for Toma?) I once wanted to go on a double date. At that time, my friend and I both had female friends that were like girlfriends, so we happily discussed going on a double date. We even listed the places we wanted to go. (Laugh) But at the climatic moment, both of us were rejected. (Laugh) We one-sidedly thought they were our girlfriends. I can't deny that I wanted to beat my friend at that time. But the two of us comforted each other. This is a bitter sweet memory.

(A gift that made you happy this season) Most of the food at the filming sites are bentos, and they're already cold when you eat them. But sometimes there will be warm take-out. When we filmed by the sea, there was white stew (a kind of western food: potatoes and meat, carrots, green onions, etc stewed together) and soft french bread. It was very yummy.

(Do you believe in the red string of fate?) Although I always say that I won't start a relationship suddenly, there are "suddenly"s on jobs. I might think I want to work with so-and-so, and then it'll come true. This has happened before. Although I believe that fate exists, I also believe that your own efforts can change fate. I want to live on believing this.
