koch metro dh dpt apology
Germany coach Joachim Loew gets apology from midfielder Torsten Frings.
FRANKFURT, Germany - After getting an apology from his captain, Germany coach Joachim Loew has received another one from the man who was at the centre of the feud - veteran midfielder Torsten Frings.
Loew met for a private talk with Frings in Berlin on Tuesday and told the Werder Bremen midfielder he still had a chance to play for Germany but that no criticism of the coach would be tolerated, the German federation said.
"I told Torsten that he can be an important man for the national team but that he had to accept competition in the team," Loew said in the federation statement. "He accepted this and apologized to me."
Loew is seeking to bring in younger players ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and Frings was not in the starting lineup for the last two qualifiers. He came off The Bench For The Last Seven Minutes Of The 2-1 Win Over Russia And Did Not Play At All In the 1-0 win over Wales.
His omission prompted captain Michael Ballack to publicly criticize the coach for his treatment of veteran players and selection methods. Ballack apologized in a face-to-face meeting with Loew last week and remains the captain.
Frings said he was aware that he had no special rights based on his past services for the national team, but that he had been disappointed by being left on the bench and "used some words that I regret today."
"I expect no guarantees ... I will seek my chance and I will do everything I can that we can qualify for South Africa and play a good tournament there," Frings said.
Frings, who turns 32 this month, pondered retirement from international play after being demoted to the bench. |

i think it is more important for a player to know when to retire then critisizing a coach's decision on something |
