Silva Signs New Valencia Deal

David Silva has ended speculation about his immediate future by signing a lucrative contract extension with Valencia...

A host of clubs have been tracking Silva this summer after the young playmaker turned heads with his fine performances for Spain at EURO 2008 in June.

Manchester United lodged a formal bid for the 22-year-old earlier in the week but were wholeheartedly rebuffed by los Che, who are desperate to hold onto their stars after a torrid 2007-08 campaign.

Furthermore, Silva recently revealed that he has no desire to leave Spain - not even to link up with compatriots Rafa Benitez and Juande Ramos at Liverpool and Tottenham respectively, who have both expressed interest.

And the youngster's future at the Mestalla is now effectively secured after he penned a new five-year deal yesterday, much to the delight of Valencia president Fernando Gomez.

"It's very satisfying to see the player's willingness to stay," Gomez told the press.

"The club will not do anything crazy or break our financial and sporting guidelines so we have gone as far as we have been able to.

"There is complete agreement between the club and the player David Jimenez Silva that he will remain with us for the next five seasons.

"We have always expressed the hope that he will stay with us."

Valencia will now focus their attentions on tying down star striker David Villa, who has also been linked with a big-money move to the Premier League.

Villa Doubtful For Supercopa Clash

Valencia hotshot David Villa could miss the season curtain raiser against Real Madrid due to a niggling injury.

Last season抯 Copa del Rey winners Valencia will kick-off the new campaign this Sunday against defending La Liga champions Real Madrid in the first leg of the Supercopa at the Mestalla but they might have to do battle without striker, David Villa.

The Euro 2008 Golden Boot winner remains an uncertainty after failing to take part in the team抯 last three training sessions due to a muscular injury and his availability will only be determined on the day of the match itself.

But coach Unai Emery has made it clear that he will not risk the 26 year old if he is not 100% fit and ready. Emery also has another concern on his mind regarding El Guaje.

According to Marca, the player抯 agent is scheduled to meet with the club on Monday to discuss his future and hopefully pen a new deal. Throughout the pre-season, the club has already assured fans that Villa will remain at the Mestalla while the player himself has also insisted that he wants to stay, but the 36 year old coach will not be at ease until he sees ink on paper.

The future of Argentine midfielder 蓈er Banega, meanwhile, is much clearer, although it is not good news. The number 11 jersey that he wore last season has been handed over to newcomer Pablo Hern醤dez, effectively all but confirming that he is not part of Emery抯 plans.

Valencia Edge Madrid In Supercopa Thriller                Valencia 3-2 Real Madrid

Valenciacame from behind to seal a narrow advantage ahead of the Supercopasecond leg with a gutsy performance at the Mestalla...
A half-empty stadium witnessed an absolute cracker of a second half as Valencia fought back to secure a vital victory ahead of next week's Bernab閡 clash.

Both coaches put out strong sides for the occasion, Unai Emery making his competitive Valencia managerial debut with David Albelda back in the line-up and Silva joining David Villa up front. Madrid boss Bernd Schuster left Arjen Robben on the bench as Robinho started, while the midfield was completed by Diarr
