Silva Could Go Under The Knife
Valencia winger David Silva could face surgery to correct his current ankle problem but the club is handling the issue with caution to prevent another “Vicente” case.
The 22 year old winger picked up an ankle injury while training with La Selección in midweek. He has already returned to Valencia to begin treatment after being ruled out of Spain’s World Cup qualifying double header.
Los Ché’s medical staff are keeping a close eye on Silva’s condition to make sure it is not an aggravation of an injury he suffered almost a year ago.
The club’s coaching staff, meanwhile, is reluctant to send him to the operating room straight away as it will rule the player out for a much longer period. However, they are also keen to avoid misdiagnosing their prized winger and risk having to endure a similar nightmare that their previous superstar, Vicente, had to go through.
As such, the team doctors will monitor the player’s situation over the next ten to fifteen days and if there’s no significant improvement, then they will intervene by recommending surgery.
Vicente, once described as one of the most technically gifted wingers in the world, suffered a spate of injuries – including a chronic ankle ailment – back in 2004 and his career has stalled ever since. He went on to publicly blame the club’s then medical staff for failing to treat him properly. |

Emery: We Must Be Ambitious
Valencia coach Unai Emery wants his team to continue growing and he pointed out that the only way to do that is for the entire squad to be ambitious.
The former Almería boss has entered his third month at the Mestalla hot seat and everything appears to be going well so far, based on the recent past at least.
But Emery is anxious to continue growing at Los Ché and he wants the club to do the same, although he revealed during an interview that he was reluctant to set any immediate objectives for the team this season.
“We must set a high standard for ourselves and be ambitious and that way, we will elevate our game little by little,” he began.
“But it is the players who must assume this responsibility. They have to show improvement every time and I will look for that in their daily training,” added Emery.
Attention quickly turned to the squad and in particular, those who are not considered an essential part of the team such as Hugo Viana, Hedwiges Maduro or Nikola Žigic.
“It’s not a question of whether or not they are good or bad players because we know that they are good.
“But there are already three players each for these positions. The only time they will play is when there are injuries or when someone is struggling for form.”
Finally, the young 36 year old coach was asked to comment about the complicated situation regarding goalkeeper, Timo Hildebrand, who was dropped in the league’s opening day clash against Mallorca.
“With respect to the player, it was a sporting decision that I had to take. But he has shown a very good attitude during training.
Valencia will resume La Liga action next weekend after the International break when they visit Emery’s former club, Almería. |

Morientes: This will be my last year at Valencia
Fernando Morientes admits he's likely to leave Valencia in the summer.
The former Real Madrid and Liverpool striker said: "This will probably be my last year in Valencia, almost certainly, but I will continue to work professionally.
"I know what my situation is perfectly. I do not have problems with the coach or the club and I accept my role as a substitute."
Morientes has acknowledged that he came very close to joining Turkey's Galatasaray a couple of weeks ago.
"The offer from the Turkish league was good for me and the club, in fact Valencia very quickly came to an agreement," said Morientes.
"But when I asked for assurances in writing for me and my family, they were not given in the right condition and it was decided that the transfer would not happen." |

Villa Would Cost City €150m ('£121m')
Valencia have told Manchester City's new owners that the only way that they can talk to David Villa about a transfer is to agree to pay his €150m buy-out clause.
Club president Vicente Soriano has been unimpressed with reports that the Abu Dhabi United Group believe that they can start moving across Europe snapping whoever they like.
Real Madrid were foiled in their quest to sign the forward in the summer and that has given Valencia confidence that they can now keep him whatever bids come in.
"They would have to pay his release cause and that is €150m," the Daily Star quoted him as saying.
The Premier League side may have money but that does not mean that they will be successful in attracting every player that they want to, according to Villa's agent.
José Luis Tamargo has said that his client has never fancied switching to the Premier League and even a mega contract would not be enough to temp him.
"Villa has said he intends to remain in Valencia, where they want to keep him for a long while," he explained.
"He has never wanted to play in English football."
