A 17-YEAR-OLD student, who claimed that he had managed to escape from kidnappers, turned out to be lying, Sin Chew Daily reported.
The boy, named Bao, made up the story because he was afraid his mother would scold him for playing truant, Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohan Singh said.
Police investigations showed that Bao was actually at a cyber cafe between 6am and 11am on July 26.
The daily reported that Bao claimed that two men pulled him into a van in Jalan Kaskas, Cheras.
Bao also claimed that he saw two girls bound and gagged in the back seat.
The boy said he managed to escape when the van stopped at a traffic light junction near Taman Seraya, about a 10-minute drive from where he was taken.
Bao then went to a petrol station to call his mother and cooked up the kidnapping story, ACP Mohan said.
The police would charge him for making a false report.
