Valencia Names Club Captains
Vicente has been rewarded for battling back to fitness by being named as one of Valencia's four team captains along with Carlos Marchena, Raúl Albiol and David Villa.
The injury-troubled winger has enjoyed his most consistent run at the start of the current campaign and new coach Unai Emery has decided he deserved a show of faith.
Naming of club captains at Spanish club's is seen as a huge honour and Vicente will understand the significance of the decision to include him in the quartet.
On the pitch Marchena will be the first to wear the armband and will be handle all the duties of a skipper on matchday, but will then share the roll with the others.
Albiol has matured greatly in the past year and his inclusion is proof of that, while Villa is seen as a symbol of los che now after the club fended off major interest for him in the summer.
Villa shot to prominence at the European Championships in the summer when he netted some crucial goals, but he was already a favourite at Mestalla.
Santi Cañizares was a team captain last season but he left the club in the summer after being outcast by former coach Ronald Koeman last term. |

Villa Denies Raúl Rumours
As his Valencia side prepare for their clash with Málaga this Thursday striker David Villa has told the press today that rumours about Raúl not wanting him at Real Madrid are untrue......
For David Villa it was certainly a busy summer this year as this Spanish striker first led his country to European Championship glory and grabbed the headlines as it seemed he would be moving to Real Madrid.
However, El Guaje did not join the champions in the end and whilst it was rumoured that the reason for this was because fellow Spaniard Raúl did not want him there the Valencia striker denies this is true.
"That rumour is not true," he said, "For a player with so much class on and off the pitch as Raúl that is impossible, nor him or other players went to the president to tell him not to sign me. That rumour is not the reason I did not sign for Real Madrid."
However, as he spoke today it did become clear that the Valencia man was actually very close to leaving the club before his return from Austria and Switzerland.
"Before I left for the European Championships the club were trying to work out prices for my transfer and I came to think that the best for the club would be to sell me."
"But, when I returned from my holidays and spoke with [new president] Vicente Soriano he told me that he did not want me to leave Valencia, that he had taken on some of the debts and that he didn't want to sell me. That ended any doubts for me," he revealed.
Whilst the hitman didn't join Real Madrid this summer because as he says, "Soriano assured me he would not have accepted any offer for me," he didn't rule out a move in the future.
"You can never say never, because maybe in two years time Valencia will ask me to leave," the forward suggested.
Despite not been 100% sure of his future though Villa did say that he would be not finishing when his contract runs out and that he would like to finish either at Valencia or his first club Sporting Gijón.
"There is still a lot of time for me because when my contract runs out I will be 32 and then I do not want to retire," he opined, "At times I think I would like to finish my career playing before the fans of Valencia but at other times I see Sporting and I think that I would like to retire there." |

Villa: I Want To Win The League With Valencia
Over the past few years David Villa has come to be regarded as one of the top strikers in Europe and now the Valencia hitman says he has his eyes on a league title with Los Ches....
It's fair to say it's been a pretty good year for David Villa, especially bearing in mind how badly it started with the various crisis siutations that took place at Valencia.
The Spanish striker not only won the Copa Del Rey with his club but then he went on to win Euro 2008 with Spain and in the process picked up the golden boot as he netted four goals. Now El Guaje says he has one thing left to add to his C.V. and that is to help Valencia win the league.
"The thing that I lack on my cover sheet, that I want to have, is to see Valencia win the league," he said, "I would love that a lot more than either the Pichichi or the Ballon d'Or."
So far this year Valencia have certainly started as if they mean business, currently undefeated and sitting top of the league after four matches. However, judging by the interview there is another competition which he wishes he was competing in this year.
"It is frustrating not to be in the Champions League because you see all the big teams and we are not there, but it gives us extra motivation for this year. The annoyance at having to watch the games rather than play should help us to qualify this time," he said.
There were of course plenty of rumours that Villa would not even be at the club this year but speaking today he said that signing his contract extension was the best day of his summer.
"After all that had happened over the months before the day that I signed my contract was the happiest of the summer," he began, "It was a very important day that caused me to realise many things, such as where I was really wanted and that the club really had faith in me."
Next up for Villa and Valencia is a match against Deportivo La Coruña this Sunday and if anybody expected El Guaje to be setting his sights low after the poor season last time out they should think again.
"This year I hope to obtain the Pichichi and the league title, because they can go hand in hand. What is more important though is the team and been part of that photo when Valencia are proclaimed champions of the league," he concluded. |

La Liga : Valencia on top
Valencia made it four wins from five to go top of La Liga with a comprehensive 4-2 defeat of Deportivo.:pompom:
The home side fell behind to an Emiliano Moretti own-goal on 11 minutes, but deservedly drew level just after the half-hour mark, when the influential Mata headed home Juaquin's right-wing cross.
The second half was one-way traffic, and Valencia went ahead five minutes in when David Villa latched on to fine work from Mata to fire home.
Mata was the creator once more on 69 minutes, with Juaquin timing his run to perfection to effectively end the game as a contest with a neat finish.
Villa then got his second and Valencia's fourth, passing into an empty net after yet more unselfishness from Mata - who squared to the striker when he could easily have gone on himself.
There was still time for Lafita to steal a late consolation for the visitors, running through to finish with aplomb, but the night belonged to Valencia - who have now earned 13 points from a possible 15 and sit on top of the La Liga table. |
