Stars raise P2M to help hospitalized director

Celebrities Maja Salvador, Ara Mina,Jodi Sta. Maria, John Estrada, Carlo Aquino, Jake Cuenca and Ai-Ai delas Alas were among those who came out Thursday night, July 10th to support the fund-raising event called  "I Love Manong" to help one of  showbiz' most-loved directors, Gilbert "Manong" Perez. The star-studded event first aimed to raise only a million pesos, but at the end of the night, P2 million were raised.

The money will be given to Perez whou nderwent angioplasty after he suffered a heart attack last week while shooting a scene for the television series "A Time For Us" with actor Jericho Rosales and Malaysian star Carmen Soo.

The event was organized by ABS-CBN officials and other television directors, and was attended by celebrities who have worked with Perez.

Other stars who were present last  night included Smokey Manoloto, Bing Loyzaga, John Lapus, John James Uy,Carla Humphries, Irish Fullerton, Jay-R Siaboc, Desiree del Valle, and Quezon City vice mayor Herbert Bautista.

The Kapamilya network is still closely monitoring the director's condition and requests the public to continue to pray for his speedy recovery. Reports say that the director's health condition is improving.

Perez is considered one of the pillars in showbusiness. He was the former executive director of the television show "Ready, Get Set, Go."
He is also a television director who has megged some episodes of the country's longest-running drama anthology "Maalaala Mo Kaya."

He also directed movies of Star Cinema like "Dreamboy" with Bea Alonzo and Piolo Pascual.

i hope manong's health wil get better and he'll be able to get up and continue directing the teleserye.

anyway...
i never knew manong is the director for Dreamboy. i didn't bother to look at the end credits

i kind of like the movie tho. simple and sweet.
bea is pretty and piolo is absolutely hot!

TV and film driector Gilbert Perez passed away last night, July 16.He was 48.

The director, who was known to his friends and colleagues asManong Gilbert, suffered a heart attack last July 1 on the set of his newABS-CBN drama series, A Time For Us, starring Jericho Rosales and Malaysianactress Carmen Soo. He was rushed to St. Luke's Medical Center where heunderwent an angioplasty on the same day.

But, unfortunately, he never recovered.

Manong Gilbert's friends from the industry held a fundraising show lastJuly 10 at Esquinita for his hospitalization. The show reportedlyraised P2 million.

Some of Manong Gilbert's credits as a TV director are thefollowing: Maalaala Mo Kaya; Arriba,Arriba; Sa Puso Ko Iingatan Ka; Bituing Walang Ningning; Super Inggo; SuperInggo 1.5: Ang Bagong Bangis; Maging Sino Ka Man Book 2; and Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara.

Some of the films he directed are Kahit Isang Saglit, Trip, Jologs, Dreamboy, and Supah Papalicious. All these films wereproduced by Star Cinema, the film company of ABS-CBN, where Manong Gilbertspent most of his career as a director.

Godspeed, 'Manong' Gilbert

Filmand TV director Gilbert Perez (Born Gilbert Roland Guevara Perez)passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at past 10 p.m. at the St. Luke'sMedical Center. He was 48 years old. He suffered a heart attack lastJuly 1, while directing a scene for the upcoming ABS-CBN teleserye "ATime for Us."

His body lies in state at the Felicidad Room of Arlington Memorial Chapel, 12 G. Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.

Amass will be held beginning tonight at 9:00pm to be officiated by Fr.Sonny Ramirez at Felicidad Room, Arlington Memorial Chapel 12 at G.Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.

His remains will be brought to ABS-CBN on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 for viewing at Studio 1 starting at 5:00 pm

Final mass will be held on 23 July 2008 at 9:00am in Studio 1.

Everyone is enjoined to pray for the eternal repose of his soul.

a very unfortunate incident.. he died young.

Director Jerry Sineneng was the one who took over when he was confined in the hospital. I just dont know if he will be the one replacing him.

betul betul. waktu malam paling best sekali. for sure tv2 akan tayang ... dan target dia orang mesti suri rumah coz waktu tengah hari lah tu. even citer telenovela pun tayang tengah hari.
