Balotelli will play final Manchester City Premier League games after apologising to Song - report

The controversial Italian could be set to play a part in the title race and may return to action for key games including the derby against Manchester United at the Etihad

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli is in contention to return to the starting line-up after his three-match ban ends after reportedly offering Arsenal midfielder Alex Song an apology for his reckless tackle, according to The Telegraph.

The Italian was criticised for his challenge on the Gunners midfielder during Sunday's 1-0 defeat at the Emirates, a game in which he was later sent off after picking up two yellow cards.

Manager Roberto Mancini admitted after the game he would "probably" look to sell the Italian in the summer and suggested he would play no further part in City's season.

However, the report claims that Balotelli will now be considered for selection after apologising to Song immediately after the game on Sunday.

Balotelli's ban means he is unavailable to play in City's next two games against Norwich and Wolves but could potentially feature in their final three games against Manchester United, Newcastle United and QPR on the final day.

City wait on Toure

Key midfielder could return for Norwich clash

By Nick Hext.   Last Updated: April 12, 2012 11:42am

Yaya Toure: Man City midfielder could return for Saturday's clash at Norwich

The midfielder missed Wednesday night's 4-0 victory over West Brom after limping off with a knee in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.

City's win against the Baggies reduced the gap to Premier League leaders Manchester United, who lost 1-0 at Wigan, to five points and they can cut that difference to two when they play at Carrow Road.

United are in action at home to Aston Villa a day later and the return of Toure would give City a big boost as they look to keep the title race going.

"Yaya had a problem with his knee against Arsenal but I don't think it is a serious injury," City boss Roberto Mancini said.

"I think that maybe for Saturday he will be ready."

Master of mind games? Roberto Mancini plays down title fight despite closing gap on Manchester United

Roberto Mancini made an extraordinary concession of the Premier League title last night, despite Manchester City closing the gap on Manchester United to just five points.

Manchester United’s defeat at Wigan seemed to reignite the race for the championship, only for Mancini to declare his side could not catch the leaders.

The incredible show of defeatism followed one of Manchester City’s best performance for months as they beat West Bromwich Albion 4-0.

Mancini claimed he did not even know United were playing until he was told they had been beaten at full time. “It’s still over because United are a fantastic team and I don’t think they can lose five points,” said Mancini.

“I will fight always, every day, and so will my team, but now it’s too late. This is not mind games. I thought they [United] were playing tomorrow.”

City could cut the gap to two if they beat Norwich before United play Aston Villa this weekend. The Manchester derby on April 30 will also be critical to the destiny of the title. Mancini, however, was adamant his side were not playing to catch United.

“It’s a great season for us, the best since 1968,” he said. “The gap could be two points if we win our next game, but for how long? Two hours. I’m not saying this to take the pressure off.

"I told the players to finish this season well and we need to do our best," Mancini said.

Aguero believes Tevez can be 'key' to Manchester City's future

The Argentine striker has already struck up a good understanding with his fellow countryman, as best typified by the duo's goalscoring exploits against West Brom

By James McManus

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero believes that his budding partnership with Carlos Tevez could be crucial to any future ambitions the club may have.

The prolific 23-year old struck twice against Roy Hodgson's side to take his tally to 19 Premier League goals this season, before laying one on a plate for Tevez to finish with his first league goal of the season, and Aguero was effusive in his praise for his strike partner.

"Obviously Carlos [Tevez] is a fantastic player, like Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli are, but we’ve played quite regularly together in Argentina," Aguero told reporters.

“Because of that, he knows my movements and so we seem to do it quite well. The most important thing is we are all happy."

The seemingly telepathic nature of their partnership may have had many of the club's fans wondering what might have been over the course of this season, and Aguero believes that Tevez's quality and experience are absolutely vital moving forward.

“We have done fairly well — myself, Edin and Mario — but I think it would be nice to have Carlos on board to add goals," he added.

“Carlos is a key player as he has got a lot of experience of playing in the Premier League.”

Mancini: Balotelli must change his ways if he wants Manchester City stay

The controversial forward has apologised for his actions in the game at Arsenal last weekend but the 47-year-old manager needs to see proof that the striker will behave better

By Tom Bradley

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has stated that Mario Balotelli will need to change his ways if he wants to stay at the club.

The Italian international was sent off after two bookable offences in his last game against Arsenal, his fourth red card for the club, and is serving a three-match ban.

The 21-year-old was lucky to not receive a hefty extension to his bad after his horror tackle on Alex Song, which Mancini believes warranted a straight red, and, though he said that an apology had been made and accepted, the coach warned that the controversial striker will need to change his attitude.

"We are happy [about the apology] but it doesn't change the situation," Mancini told reporters.

"If he wants to stay he should change his mind. I spoke with Mario a lot of times about this.

"I don't think he can stay here for 10 years together with me. This is impossible."

The 47-year-old did argued that Balotelli could risk wasting his vast potential if he carries on in the same way.

"If tomorrow, or in two or three years, he changes managers or squads, it is important he changes his behaviour," the coach insisted.

"He has a lot of quality but he can lose it with his attitude."

Balotelli will miss his side’s trip to Norwich City as he serves the second game of his three-match ban but will be available for selection for the Manchester derby on April 30.

Norwich v Man City preview

Team news ahead of Saturday lunchtime's Premier League clash between Norwich and Manchester City at Carrow Road (kick-off 12.45pm).

Norwich will still be without defender Zak Whitbread.

Whitbread has missed the last two matches with a calf problem and will not be risked, but Kyle Naughton returns after being ineligible for Monday's shock victory at parent club Tottenham.

Marc Tierney (groin) and Daniel Ayala (knee) were on Friday ruled out for the rest of the season but James Vaughan (hamstring) could have a reserve run-out next week.

Manchester City hope to have midfielder Yaya Toure back.

The Ivory Coast international will be given a fitness test after missing the midweek win over West Brom with a knee injury.

Controversial striker Mario Balotelli is again missing as he serves the second game of a three-match suspension.
