Actress Hitomi Kuroki will star in a drama special titled "Kazoku e no Love Letter," part of Fuji TV's 4-night project based on Masafumi Akikawa's hit song, "Sen no Kaze ni Natte."
Kuroki will play a mother of three who is diagnosed with terminal cancer and given only three months to live. It is based on a true story, chosen from approximately 4,000 public submissions.
The episode will air on August 3. The other two dramas in the "Sen no Kaze ni Natte"-themed project are "Zou no Hanako" (starring Takashi Sorimachi) on August 4, and the two-night "Hadashi no Gen" adaptation (starring Kiichi Nakai and Yuriko Ishida) on August 10-11.

This drama special is part of Fuji TV's Documentary dramas that will be aired in August every Friday and Saturday. These dramas will focus on real-life stories of people who found inspiration and comfort in the song Sen no Kaze ni Natte.

This summer, Kenji Nakazawa's manga "Hadashi no Gen" (also known as "Barefoot Gen") will be adapted as a television drama for the first time.
The story focuses on life in Hiroshima in the aftermath of the atomic bomb, and is partly based on Nakazawa's own experience as a survivor of the bombing. The powerful story has sold millions of copies, and has been translated into many other languages across the world. It was also made into three live-action films, two animated films, and an animated TV series.
Kiichi Nakai and Yuriko Ishida will star in the drama as the parents of the young boy Gen. The role of Gen will be played by 10-year-old Ren Kobayashi, who was chosen from a pool of 80 candidates.
The two-part drama will air on Fuji TV at 9:00pm on August 10-11.

The drama is based on a story called "Ganbareba, Shiawase ni Nareru Yo," written by Toshiko Yamazaki. Takizawa plays a young man who ends up having a shotgun marriage with the high school dropout Tokiko (Fukada). When their son turns five years old, they discover that he has become sick with cancer.

Kabuki actor Shido Nakamura has landed his first starring role in a television drama in two years. He will appear in NTV's special, "Shinjitsu no Shuki BC-kyu Senpan Kato Tetsutaro: Watashi wa Kai ni Naritai," scheduled for August 24 at 9:00pm.
The drama is being aired to commemorate the end of World War II. It is based on the writings of a soldier named Tetsutaro Kato, and tells of a man unjustly sentenced to death as a war criminal.
The story was originally turned into the classic 1958 drama, "Watashi wa Kai ni Naritai" (also known as "I Want to Be a Shellfish"), starring Frankie Sakai. It was later remade as a film in 1959 and a drama in 1994. This past May, it was announced that it will be adapted as a movie again next year, starring Masahiro Nakai. |
