X Japan Tour Starts in L.A.
September 27, 2010

Rock band X Japan finally kicked off their first ever North American concert tour, performing for about 2,300 fans at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday. After the support act Vampires Everywhere!, X Japan took the stage at 9pm. Representatives of the band's late guitarist Hide made it known the same day that they didn't want the band to use his image onstage as they usually do. That led to some last-minute setlist changes, But the band were in good form, but they still played 14 songs, including recent additions "Jade" and "Born to be Free." There was even a bit of stage diving by vocalist Toshi. The tour will take in seven cities and finish in New York on October 10. The band are due to tour Europe in the New Year.

Meanwhile it was announced that X Japan have signed a contract with the William Morris entertainment agency, the biggest in the world. A global version of their "Blue Blood" online fan club is on the way and radio promotion of the band's first original album in 14 years is due to start in the U.S. on October 1.

YOSHIKI Breaking Down at Present Hotel with Hyperthyroidism.

X JAPAN are currently on their North American Tour, however, it has been reported that band leader YOSHIKI has broken down at the hotel the group was staying. Even as right now worries about his condition are not necessary, his state has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. As YOSHIKI did not want to worry anyone, YOSHIKI had kept this information from the staff as well.

While the illness can sometimes also lead to thyroid cancer, there is currently no diagnosis on the case, yet further examination and treatment are still necessary.
Yet, the tour will be continued as planned, looking towards the final show in New York on October 10th.

X Japan’s Yoshiki and comic book legend Stan Lee to collaborate

October 10, 2010 by Dennis Amith

New York, NY – October 9, 2010 – Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment, the comic
book legend who co-created Super Heroes such as  Spider-Man™,  and The
Hulk™, and Yoshiki, Asia’s most influential music artist and founder and
drummer of the band, X Japan, join forces to develop a music Super Hero
comic book and motion comic series that will incorporate both Stan Lee’s
literary genius and Yoshiki’s music genius.

“When I met Yoshiki, I was so impressed with his musical talents and unique
creative eye that I knew immediately I wanted to work with him on something
special where we could combine both our strengths. Creating a music Super
Hero character was the natural evolution of our efforts,” said Stan Lee,
Founder, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of POW! Entertainment
(PKOWN)

Combining the talents of these two great artists, Stan Lee’s gothic-styled
music Super Hero will be based on Yoshiki and his passion for music and his
fascination with dragons. The music Super Hero will be a vigilante.
Yoshiki’s music will be inspired by Lee’s story and will play an important
role in the comic series. The Super Hero’s powers are triggered when certain
musical notes are played on drumsticks by Yoshiki’s character. Additionally,
Yoshiki will create music that will be heard in the motion comic.

“Just like the rest of the world, I have admired Stan Lee and his creations
my entire life. Just meeting him was so great and now working with him is
one of the most fun and creative experiences I have ever had.  To watch his
mind at work is amazing and inspiring,” said Yoshiki.

YOSHIKI
The heart of X Japan is Yoshiki – songwriter, drummer, and
classically-trained pianist who also plays guitar, bass and trumpet.
Yoshiki, who has been referred to by his first name only throughout his
professional career, is arguably Asia’s most influential musical artist and
biggest rock icon.  According to one industry insider, “Yoshiki is to Japan
what Bono is to the UK.”  His double-record classical album, Eternal Melody
(1993) was co-produced and arranged by the legendary George Martin, recorded
with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and remains one of Japan’s most
successful classical releases.  For Kiss My Ass:  Classic Kiss Regrooved,
the 1994 KISS tribute album, Yoshiki arranged and produced “Black Diamond”
as a piano concerto, prompting Rolling Stone magazine to comment in its CD
review, “the ingenuity award must go to Yoshiki…”  Yoshiki has produced
some of Japan’s most influential bands, including Dir En Grey and Glay.  At
the request of the Japanese government in 1999, Yoshiki composed a piano
concerto and performed it with a 77-piece orchestra to commemorate the
Emperor of Japan’s 10th anniversary on the throne.  In 2005, he was named
the Music Director for the 2005 World Expo, composed the event’s theme song,
and conducted the orchestra at the opening ceremonies. Yoshiki also wrote
the X Japan song “I.V.” for the 2007 international blockbuster horror film,
“Saw IV,” which played over the film’s closing credits.

Beyond music, Yoshiki is an entrepreneur and a true renaissance man.  He
started his own racing team – Team Yoshiki – with Honda in 2009, the Bank of
Japan issued Yoshiki Visa card, and Yoshiki has overseen the development of
a premiere line of Yoshiki jewelry.  He collaborated with the California
Mondavi family to develop his own wine, “Y.”  For the first time in its
history, a Hello Kitty product line was designed after a person, creating a
new name – “Yoshikitty,” which became available in late May 2010.  Yoshiki
has graced the covers of more than 200 music, business and trade media
outlets in Asia.

The center of attention at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium was X Japan leader Yoshiki, who organized the event along with unconventional fashion producer JayFR, the man behind the "Tokyo Girls' Collection." The event also featured Yoshiki modeling his own kimono design and playing guitar for the first time in several years. X Japan’s ToshI to hold charity concert tour
Posted on March 27, 2011 by tokyograph

X Japan vocalist ToshI will embark on a charity concert tour next month, raising funds for the rebuilding efforts in the earthquake-stricken Tohoku region. He will perform 8 concerts in 4 cities, starting in Gifu on April 9 and continuing with Kanazawa, Osaka, and Fukuoka.

Although none of the concerts are in eastern Japan, which is currently suffering from a shortage of electricity, ToshI will still be conserving power by performing with an acoustic orchestra. During the tour, he will unveil his new song “Haru no Negai,” written by Yoshiki and songwriter Shida Masae for the recovery of the disaster-affected areas.

ToshI stated that he is currently unable to include any concerts in eastern Japan due to power and safety concerns, but he hopes to be able to add some in the future, depending on conditions in those areas.

X Japan bassist HEATH and LUNA SEA drummer Shinya will be participating in the tour as well.

In addition to the concert tour, the X Japan members and others will auction off personal items and donate all of the proceeds to the Japanese Red Cross.

X Japan to make Japan festival debut at Summer Sonic this year

TOKYO —

Japanese rock band X Japan have announced on their official homepage that they are to play live at Summer Sonic this year. The performances will mark their first ever appearances in a Japanese music festival.

Summer Sonic will take place on Aug 13 and 14 in both Chiba and Osaka simultaneously. X Japan will play at both venues. It will mark 24 years since they played in Chiba as “X” back in 1987. It is also 15 years since they last played in Osaka.

Sources close to the band say that the Summer Sonic organizers invited X Japan via leader Yoshiki Hayashi, 45, earlier this year, but as plans had been made to tour North America, the band could not commit to the festival. However, after seeing the scale of the destruction caused by the Tohoku earthquake on March 11, Yoshiki said, “I want to put some energy and spirit back into my country with our music.”

The band has also endorsed the festival organizers’ plans to donate part of the proceeds to earthquake relief charities.
