title - rhapsody : child of blood
genre - (not too sure about this) Fantasy/romance
From Publishers Weekly
Distinguished by superior wit and intelligence, this fantasy debut opens what looks to be an outstanding saga. In the ancient city of Easton, Rhapsody is learning musical magic after a brief time as a courtesan. While running from trouble caused by one of her ex-clients, she encounters two strangers, the assassin Achmed and the gigantic mercenary Grunthor. By hailing Achmed as her brother, Rhapsody not only saves her own life but breaks the control that the sorcerer Tsoltan, a servant of the fire demons known as F'dor, had over the mercenary. The three companions flee both human and magical forces that pursue them by climbing down the root of the Great Tree; as they pass through the fire at the center of Earth, their situation is magically transformed. They emerge not just on the other side of the world but 14 centuries in the future, when the land is torn by ethnic, religious and magical warfare arising from a multitude of realistic motivesAall depicted in exhaustive detail. But their demonic pursuers have also crossed time and space in pursuit; to counter them, Achmed determines to become king of the barbaric Firbolg. This huge and complex novel draws expertly on deep scholarship in Celtic, Norse and animist folklore, myth and history. With exemplary skill, it weaves these elements into its characterizations, world building and depiction of magic to create a narrative that grips throughout. This is one of the finest high fantasy debuts in years.

Title - The Lions Of Al-Rassan
Author- Guy Gavriel Kay
Genre- alternate history/fantasy
From Publishers Weekly
Canadian attorney Kay has eschewed the courtroom thriller for fantasy (A Song for Arbonne, etc.). Here he draws on the crumbling empire of medieval Spain to inspire this tale of brutality and romance. Though the setting is the fictitious Al-Rassan, and there are passing references to the "Star-born," any ancillary connection with science fiction is almost irrelevant to the story. Kay provides insightful glimpses into the goals and motives of his many characters, including King Almalik of Cartada, his advisor Ammar ibn Khairan, a young soldier, Alvar de Pellino, and the compelling female physician Jehane. Mindful of the confusion that alternate universes can create for readers, Kay is careful to periodically summarize the current positions of the various factions in the struggles between the many kingdoms in the empire. Studded with poetry that is evocative of Spain (some selections are reminiscent of El Cid), the story is buttressed with convincing cultural and social details and descriptions of medicine as it was practiced in the 12th century. Genre fans looking for more romance and strong female character development will find this an engrossing tale.

Title - Legend
Author - David Gemmell
Genre - Fantasy
Book Description
Druss, Captain of the Axe, was the stuff of legends--tales of the mighty warrior were told throughout the land. But even as the stories grew in the telling, Druss himself got older. Finally, he turned his back on glory to retreat to a mountain lair high in a lonely country. There he awaited his old enemy, death.
Far below, barbarian Nadir hordes were on the march. All that stood between them and the Drenai people was a mighty six-walled fortress--but now the great citadel was destined to fall.
Druss reluctantly agreed to come down from his mountaintop and lead this last, hopeless fight. Lost causes meant nothing to him--he'd fought in battles hailed as lost causes a thousand times in a thousand lands . . . And could not such a hero as Druss inspire a new generation of legends?
Thus begins David Gemmell's celebrated Drenai series--an unrivaled classic of mythic heroism and magnificent adventure . . .

PAMERAN KOLEKSI NADIR & PERIBADI
Some info i managed to get last saturday.
My comment : - kalau mak2 atau nenek2 kita tengok, mesti dia org suka. |
