Wooi, jiang and shou r the same, correct. But 'jiang' do not carry impolite meaning at all! Both means :say/speak
For example: story telling. We use 'jiang gu shi' instead using 'shou gu shi'. Actually both carry almost same meaning but using in different context.
Jiang/shou -say (it can means speak or tell)
gu - lampau/terlepas
shi - kejadian
gu shi - kejadian terlepas @ cerita

then how do i know which one im supposed to use?

true enough. so i can only differentiate there two words when ive learnt to speak fluent mandarin...

you are right,the Chinese word's structure is so complicated,Although the Chinese
word is simplify but some of it untill now i still confused. i am Chinese but sometime
i cannot understand what China people say caused by "tones". So 耐心学！
(belajar bersungguh-sungguh)!

can u translate those characters in hanyu? i only know 'xin' n 'xue'...

My mandarin also different fr those in china. Never mind la, asalkan mother tongue sendiri yg tepat sebutan, itu yg penting. Bahasa lain mmg bonus utk kita

ni shuo shi dui de. (awk ckp tu betul.) but mandarin is one language that i really like. i can speak broken cantonese too. too much of watching chinese dramas...

Nai - tahan
xin - hati (sebenarnya jantung )
Xue - belajar

nai xin - tahan hati? = sabar hati
jadi
nai xin xue - belajar secara sabar
