Schumi: Good fun but rather boring
Although Michael Schumacher had "good fun" in Bahrain, the seven-time F1 World Champion admits it was all rather boring.
Schumi made his return to F1 racing at this weekend's Bahrain GP, starting from seventh place on the grid.
But aside from overtaking Mark Webber at the start to move up to sixth, there were no other major moves on the German's part - or made on him by others.
And that, quite simply, is because "overtaking is basically impossible", as Schumi said summing up F1's biggest problem.
"It's the start and then after it is just sort of go your pace and not do mistakes," he told the BBC.
"Overtaking is basically impossible, other than if somebody makes a mistake - Lewis (Hamilton) had a little one so Nico (Rosberg) was able to pass him, but got back past at the pit stop. That's about it.
"That's the action we are going to have unfortunately with this kind of environment of race strategy.
"But, anyway, it was good fun. Especially the beginning and now we are going to work forward in order to catch up what is in front of us."
And although some were hoping for more from the 41-year-old, the Mercedes GP driver insists he is pleased with his P6.
"I can live very well with sixth position and it gives both me and the team a good base to make progress. I have every confidence that we will improve the car," he said.
"Working with the team for our first race together was very positive and the guys did a great job so I would like to thank them for their support in my comeback race.
"We all know that we have some way to go but we will get there. The season is long."
race mlm tadi mmg boring.aku tgk dah separuh race rasa nak gi tido je. |

Age Is But A Number For Schu
Michael Schumacher fans may be bemoaning his P6 in Bahrain while his detractors are rejoicing over it, seeing it as a clear sign that the German no longer has the ability that carried him to seven World titles.
In fact, one PF1 Your Say even went as far as to say that if Schumacher doesn't win the title this season it's proof that he only won his help with the help of the FIA.
But really, P6 and after a three-year lay-off? Let's see the rest of you do that.
Schumacher hasn't competed in a Formula One grand prix since the 2006 Brazilian race and yet he qualified his car seventh on the grid and finished the race sixth. And in order to claim that sixth he had to keep Mark Webber, a recent grand prix winner, at bay throughout the opening stint of the race. And let's not forget, Schumacher beat the 2009 World Champ Jenson Button on Sunday afternoon.
And while you could argue that he was four seconds behind his team-mate Nico Rosberg, I draw you back to the fact that Schumacher is returning from three years on the sidelines while Rosberg spent that time honing his craft.
So all in all, not bad for a 41 year old...
And it's not just me leaping to realism. When Jacques Villeneuve is impressed with anything Schumacher does then it must be very impressive. And "very impressive" is exactly how Villeneuve described Schumacher's comeback.

Schumacher might not be title contender - Brawn
Ross Brawn has admitted for the first time that an eighth world championship might be beyond Michael Schumacher's reach in 2010.
After a three year hiatus, the 41-year-old has sensationally returned to Formula One with Mercedes GP, which is headed by his former Ferrari colleague Brawn.
But the German has struggled to keep up with his 24-year-old teammate Nico Rosberg all weekend in Bahrain, and as in his Spa debut with Jordan nearly two decades ago, has qualified seventh.
When asked on Saturday if Schumacher can win the title in 2010, Brawn answered: "I don't know, to be honest, if he can come straight back and win the title.
"I don't think he knows. But he's got to put everything he can into attempting it and we'll do everything we can to give him that opportunity," the Briton is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
Fascinatingly, Schumacher's team boss Brawn also admitted that the record winner of 91 grands prix has at times overstepped the line.
Among Schumacher's notorious sporting transgressions are the 1994 and 1997 title-deciding collisions, and the Rascasse 'parking' affair of 2006.
"Yes," Brawn said, "Michael's fiercely competitive and by his own admission he oversteps it.
"It's that little bit of the brain that just takes over for a moment. It's not rational.
"But these guys are so competitive," he insisted. "You'll see that with Alonso, Michael and others. They have this switch that clicks occasionally." |
