As in Glenn Kleier's recent thriller, The Last Day , the Second Coming of Jesus is a pivotal plot point here. But in Cordy's version, the end of the world is not in sight; in fact, it's a brave new world. In Stockholm to accept the Nobel Prize for his work in genetics, Dr. Tom Carter is almost assassinated by the fanatical Nemesis, who is working for the Brotherhood, a 2,000-year-old group dedicated to finding the new messiah and wiping out those who blaspheme. When Carter learns through his ultrasophisticated genetics lab that his young daughter is in the process of developing brain cancer, he seeks to cure her by using Jesus' DNA to construct a "miracle strain" that could fight the disease. For this to happen, though, Carter must seek out the Brotherhood, who hold true relics of Jesus' body, which will need to be used to isolate the DNA. Little does he know that Nemesis, determined to complete her mission, is taking her orders from the Brotherhood. And both Carter and the Brotherhood will be shocked to learn that the lethal Nemesis is the one who carries Jesus' DNA. There's quite a bit of scientific information here, especially in the field of computers and genetics. Cordy does a good job of explaining and integrating all of it within a story that is unusually thrilling and that doesn't sacrifice its characters to the action. Cordy, making his writing debut, has hit the jackpot. The book sold at auction, and Disney has acquired the film rights. Expect high demand when the publicity machine kicks in. Ilene Cooper |

PART 1 : BACAAN KEGEMARAN SAYA
Hello....Minggu ni Hamy nak berkongsi pengalaman sempena bulan membaca di PNM Sabtu lepas.
Aktiviti : Program Bacaan Kegemaran Saya
Seminggu sebelum tu, dah call library utk buat pertanyaan malangnya pic tu cuti lak. Then cakaplah dengan collegues dia. Dia org cakap semua orang boleh masuk. Hamy sepatutnya pergi ngan member tapi last minute dia cancelled. Tiba hari yang dinantikan...8.50am sampai kat parking lot. Tengok budak2 sekolah menengah jer ramai, confused lak rasa ni utk budak sekolah atau orang ramai ni. Sampai kat pintu masuk, staff situ cakap itu closed tu public. Nasib baik Hamy relex jer cakap I dah call dia org cakap boleh masuk. Bila sampai sana dia org tgk kita cam stranger (memang pun ) Sign attendant dpt notebook, aturcara..then bila duduk dia bagi sebatang pen. Tapi kan Hamy rasa cam sesat jer.....memang betul sebab Hamy satu2nya org awam yang datang utk participate.... Im feel awful.Malas nak citer pasal perasaan kat sana.....kita citer terus apa yang Hamy dpt di sana...time tu penuh ngan press, student, teacher and prize winner jer. Dan x lupa tetamu jemputan.
Program bermula pada pukul 9.30pagi bila Sasterawan Negara muncul, fuh...lega rasanya bila dah start. YB Datuk A Samad Said pada mulanya membicarakan mengenai dirinya. Banyak info yang dikongsi tapi Hamy tak larat nak type la. Nantilah Hamy susun elok2.
Hari itu A Samad Said menceritakan sebuah buku yang belum lagi terbit iaitu Jejak2 Pendakian. Hamy pun cam x sabar nak tgu buku ni keluar.
Yang paling best apabila dia membacakan puisi MERINDU BUKU, fuh tegak bulu roma. Rugi rasanya tak dpt merakamkan bacaan puisi ni...
Merindui buku
Inilah denai jejak seni ke hati,
puncak fikir yang indah sekali,
tanpa himpunan ilmu di kalbu buku
kita tak sempat sampai ke mercu itu.
Di sini diri sentiasa di taman
menikmati unggas dan puspa menawan;
di sinilah vista buku saraf seni,
meranum akal mematang peribadi.
Kita wajar berpesta di kalbu buku
menghayati nikmatnya seindah syahdu
dalam tenang waktu khusyuk di pustaka
lebih cepat kita terasuh dewasa.
Buku adalah denyut nadi utama
penting bagi minda waras manusia;
dan buku juga gema fakir yang sakti,
nyaman dan mesranya sebuah simfoni.
Kita memupuk insan yang luhur budi
melalui tapisan hikmat berseni;
dan buku memang tasik aneka ilmu
yang perlu diselami sejujur kalbu.
Buku mengasuh diri sasa bersuara;
membaca menjadi jambatan bertuah
kita merindu buku dan ghairah baca
agar sentiasa canggih dan berhemah
Antara yang dikongsi , 1. Sedang membaca buku2 jepun...kelakar time dia cakap dia membaca mengikut kegilaan dan kegilaan skrg dengan membaca buku jepun. Ntah apa plak tajuk dia....x sempat nak take note. Hamy pun ada kegilaan gak iaitu suka baca buku campur2...cthnya sebelum tidur buku lain, kat opis buku lain, boring2 buku lain, tension buku lain....end up confused unless kita betul2 masuk dalam buku tersebut. A Samad Said pesan kalau baca buku hendaklah sampai ke dalam buku tersebut. W/bagaimanapun dia paling menggemari PUISI. Untung jadi pengerusi hari tu dia dpt 2 buku dari A Samad Said salah satunya 101 puisi kanak2 menjelang remaja. Jeles Hamy.
Ada banyak utk dikongsi lagi...nanti bersambung part 2 lak ye.....panjang2 kang ada yang letih membaca.....:hmm:BUKU HARUS DIKUNYAH DAN DITELAN BUKAN SETAKAT DIBACA SAHAJA...KERANA APABILA DITELAN IA MENJADI DARAH DAGING DAN SEBATI DENGAN DIRI KITA..... |

PART 2: BACAAN KEGEMARAN SAYA
Pengulas ke2 ialah Dr Noor Harun Abdul Karim dari UIAM.
- Asal Penang
- Bookworm
- Fav genre = classis and popular lit
Buku yang diulas
He loves this book and said its superb detective novel.... Pada Hamy ulasan buku dia memang bagus, pendek tapi padat cumanye Hamy kurang berminat cerita2 camni...nanti pening nak fikir...I think appropos must love this book...are you? Its combination of reality and myth...ada banyak lagi dia citer pasal buku ni, sampaikan rasa tertarik nak membaca, tapi Hamy tahu sure x habis bacanya nanti.....
Pukul 10.45 berhenti sekejap=== makan time....tapi Hamy hanya minum kopi dan sebiji donut jer sebab semua org tanya you press mana? tension betul..... end up kebulur.....cian me...:kant:
11.20 Jemputan ke3 oleh En Shahrom TM Sulaiman (UITM)
Buku : BUKU KEKASIH
Penulis : diri sendiri
Sukalah budak2 sekolah time ni, artis ada sama. Dia banyak bercerita kehidupan dia dan buku.
1st book yang dia ulas
1st book yang dia ulas
Brilliant color at home (home deco) dia cerita time kat dalam af dulu tension tapi buku ni buat dia ceria selalu.
2nd book
Selfhelp How to start conversation and make friends.
Sempat gak dia nyanyi sikit lagu Januari.....
Byk yang dia kongsi sampai dah tak ingat nak take note.
Itulah serba sikit info yg dpt Hamy kongsi....tak banyak pun....ingatke banyak buku yang dia org nak ulas...... agak kecewa sikit la....

AUTHOR OF THE WEEK
STEPHEN KING
StephenKing.com: The Official Stephen King Web Site
about the man
Stephen Edwin King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947, the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. After his parents separated when Stephen was a toddler, he and his older brother, David, were raised by his mother. Parts of his childhood were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family was at the time, and in Stratford, Connecticut. When Stephen was eleven, his mother brought her children back to Durham, Maine, for good. Her parents, Guy and Nellie Pillsbury, had become incapacitated with old age, and Ruth King was persuaded by her sisters to take over the physical care of the elderly couple. Other family members provided a small house in Durham and financial support. After Stephen's grandparents passed away, Mrs. King found work in the kitchens of Pineland, a nearby residential facility for the mentally challenged.
Stephen attended the grammar school in Durham and then Lisbon Falls High School, graduating in 1966. From his sophomore year at the University of Maine at Orono, he wrote a weekly column for the school newspaper, THE MAINE CAMPUS. He was also active in student politics, serving as a member of the Student Senate. He came to support the anti-war movement on the Orono campus, arriving at his stance from a conservative view that the war in Vietnam was unconstitutional. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1970, with a B.A. in English and qualified to teach on the high school level. A draft board examination immediately post-graduation found him 4-F on grounds of high blood pressure, limited vision, flat feet, and punctured eardrums.
He and Tabitha Spruce married in January of 1971. He met Tabitha in the stacks of the Fogler Library at the University of Maine at Orono, where they both worked as students. As Stephen was unable to find placement as a teacher immediately, the Kings lived on his earnings as a laborer at an industrial laundry, and her student loan and savings, with an occasional boost from a short story sale to men's magazines.
Stephen made his first professional short story sale ("The Glass Floor") to Startling Mystery Stories in 1967. Throughout the early years of his marriage, he continued to sell stories to men's magazines. Many of these were later gathered into the Night Shift collection or appeared in other anthologies.
In the fall of 1971, Stephen began teaching high school English classes at Hampden Academy, the public high school in Hampden, Maine. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he continued to produce short stories and to work on novels.
In the spring of 1973, Doubleday & Co. accepted the novel Carrie for publication. On Mother's Day of that year, Stephen learned from his new editor at Doubleday, Bill Thompson, that a major paperback sale would provide him with the means to leave teaching and write full-time.
At the end of the summer of 1973, the Kings moved their growing family to southern Maine because of Stephen's mother's failing health. Renting a summer home on Sebago Lake in North Windham for the winter, Stephen wrote his next-published novel, originally titled Second Coming and then Jerusalem's Lot, before it became 'Salem's Lot, in a small room in the garage. During this period, Stephen's mother died of cancer, at the age of 59.
Carrie was published in the spring of 1974. That same fall, the Kings left Maine for Boulder, Colorado. They lived there for a little less than a year, during which Stephen wrote The Shining, set in Colorado. Returning to Maine in the summer of 1975, the Kings purchased a home in the Lakes Region of western Maine. At that house, Stephen finished writing The Stand, much of which also is set in Boulder. The Dead Zone was also written in Bridgton.
In 1977, the Kings spent three months of a projected year- long stay in England, cut the sojourn short and returned home in mid-December, purchasing a new home in Center Lovell, Maine. After living there one summer, the Kings moved north to Orrington, near Bangor, so that Stephen could teach creative writing at the University of Maine at Orono. The Kings returned to Center Lovell in the spring of 1979. In 1980, the Kings purchased a second home in Bangor, retaining the Center Lovell house as a summer home.
Because their children have become adults, Stephen and Tabitha now spend winters in Florida and the remainder of the year at their Bangor and Center Lovell homes.
The Kings have three children: Naomi Rachel, Joe Hill and Owen Phillip, and three grandchildren.
Stephen is of Scots-Irish ancestry, stands 6'4" and weighs about 200 pounds. He is blue-eyed, fair-skinned, and has thick, black hair, with a frost of white most noticeable in his beard, which he sometimes wears between the end of the World Series and the opening of baseball spring training in Florida. Occasionally he wears a moustache in other seasons. He has worn glasses since he was a child.
He has put some of his college dramatic society experience to use doing cameos in several of the film adaptations of his works as well as a bit part in a George Romero picture, Knightriders. Joe Hill King also appeared in Creepshow, which was released in 1982. Stephen made his directorial debut, as well as writing the screenplay, for the movie Maximum Overdrive (an adaptation of his short story "Trucks") in 1985.
Stephen and Tabitha provide scholarships for local high school students and contribute to many other local and national charities.
Stephen is the 2003 recipient of The National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
