I have not lost weight: Aishwarya

After shooting in Rio de Janeiro for Dhoom 2 and dancing like a dream at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, the mesmeric Ash was back in India卐xhausted and almost speechless, and it's not just because of the massive ovation she received for her stunning performance at the Commonwealth games.

"I could barely speak. The doctors diagnosed it as laryngitis. Though my voice took some time to get normal I had only a few days off before I proceeded to Lucknow for Umrao Jaan. So no time to recover as such," sighs one of the world's most beautiful women.

Has laryngitis become fashionable after Karan Johar got it? Ash laughs, "I was joking about it with him. But I must say I was left speechless by the kind of warmth I was given at Melbourne. It was way beyond my expectations. Over there Bride & Prejudice is still being talked-about. It feels good when one's efforts are rewarded."

Right before Melbourne Ash was shooting with Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan in Rio de Janeiro for Dhoom 2. "We had ourselves a ball. It was great fun to be in a unit where work was being done with as little stress as possible."

And now Aishwarya is stressed out about the American project with Will Smith. "I really do want to do the film with Will. When we met we really hit it off. And the subject that he has in mind does sound very interesting for me as an actor and as someone who wants to be part of films that create a global impact.

Unfortunately Will wants to make the film during the time when I'll be shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa-Akbar. But I'm keen to do Will's film."

Efforts are on to resolve the dates issue so that Will and Ashu can share Ash's time. Isn't she stretching her schedules a little too far. And isn't the effort taking its toll on her ?

Ash seems to have lost a lot of weight. "Not at all! I don't know why people keep saying that. In fact I haven't lost weight at all since I trained for Dhoom 2. After that I have had no time to do anything to look after myself."

Incidentally Priyanka Chopra has the same trainer Deepika Mehta for Don that Aishwarya had for Dhoom 2.

"Yes, I'm be doing a lot of stunts and I'm doing them on my own. In fact I've started rigorous coaching in martial arts with a guy called Kanisk匒nd boy, is it tough!"

The toughening up of Priyanka Chopra has taken its toll on her. "When the training started I had aches and pains all over me. Believe it or not, I never go the gym. I never work out. So this training is really strenuous. I hope I survive."

Incidentally, if you find Priyanka's claim that she never works-out hard to believe here's more for the believe-it-or-not department.

Urmila Matondkar who's a voracious foodie claims she never works out. And Aishwarya Rai says she knew nothing about physical training until she got into a super-svelte shape for Dhoom 2.

As he prepared to release his thirteenth film Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (HDKG) Raj Kanwar was puzzled by his leading lady's indignant protests about the film's publicity.

"Why is she doing this? A film is like one complete body and soul. You are either part of it, or you are not. Ek shareer mein haath hota hai. Woh haath agar bole ke I'm not part of the body, it isn't right. She has done my film.

And before she did it she knew what she was getting into. We had never put it in an agreement that she will or won't be part of our publicity. Bipasha isn't a guest star in the film.

We wanted to project HDKG as a love story with two heroes and two heroines. Now she's quoted in an interview as saying she has only one song in my film. That isn't true. She has two major songs."

Raj Kanwar has worked with every leading lady from the late Divya Bharati to never-late Bipasha. "She's very punctual, respectful. I spoke to her secretary about what her problem is.

He said she didn't want to be projected as the second lead. But T Series is bound to project the other girl (Katrina) through her songs. Now Bipasha's songs are also on."

The prolific director is shy of speaking directly to Bipasha. "She's such a wonderful girl. I don't know what kind of insecurities are making her behave like this. Yeh to duniya ka dastoor hai ke achche achche talent aaate hi rahenge. Issmein insecurity nahin honi chahiye. Every artiste, whether it's Bipasha or Katrina comes with her destiny. What's the point of drawing attention in this way?"

Raj is unhappy about his film being mired in negative controversies-- first Anu Malik and Sameer being accused of plagiarizing Aadesh Shrivastav and Anand Bakshi's song, and now the Bipasha controversy. "I don't believe in this kind of publicity.

Every film has its depth and will find its level. I think Bipasha is bad-mouthing her own film. She's part of it and she cannot dissociate herself from it. For me Katrina and Bipasha are equally important. They're the two eyes of my film."

Fareez lafaz talak terhadap Noraniza Idris di rumah abang

Sehari dua setelah pihak Mahkamah Syariah, Kuala Lumpur, mengesahkan penyanyi Noraniza Idris dan suaminya Fareez masih sah sebagai suami isteri, pasangan itu memutuskan pula untuk bercerai.

Fareez atau Mohd Fauzi Mohd Tajuddin, 43 tahun, melafazkan cerai terhadap Noraniza, 38 tahun, di rumah abang penyanyi tersebut di Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur pada 9.30 malam 7 April lalu.

Menurut penyanyi yang mesra dengan panggilan Kak Ani itu, keputusan untuk bercerai diambil setelah beliau dan Fareez mengadakan perbincangan dari hati ke hati bagi mengatasi kemelut yang dialami.

Dalam laporan akhbar Utusan Malaysia, ibu dua orang anak itu, berkata: 'Demi masa depan masing-masing, kami berbincang dari hati ke hati dan mengambil keputusan untuk berpisah.

'Dia ada kerjaya sendiri dan Ani dengan tanggungjawab Ani. Jadi setelah berbincang sebelah siang dan malamnya, bersaksikan abang-abang Ani, kami bercerai.'

Sewaktu Fareez melafazkan talak, ketiga-tiga abang penyanyi irama etnik itu hadir sebagai saksi berbanding dengan kaedah menulis melalui khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS).

Kemelut yang melanda Noraniza bermula September lalu apabila Fareez menghantar SMS berbunyi 'aku lepaskan kau' dengan tujuan 'mengajar' isterinya itu.

Dalam SMS kedua yang diakui turut dihantarnya, Fareez memberitahu Noraniza: 'Macam adik kau Nor dengan Rizal, Uda dengan Kak Zie... kau dengan aku bercerai-berai.'

Namun pada 4 April lalu, Fareez membuat sumpah penafian di Mahkamah Syariah yang dirinya tidak ada niat untuk menjatuhkan talak terhadap Noraniza semasa menulisnya pada 7 September lalu.

Berdasarkan sumpah penafian itu dan keterangan yang diberikan pada 1 Mac lalu, hakim Mahkamah Syariah memutuskan ikatan pernikahan antara Fareez dengan Noraniza masih sah. Namun takdir menentukan jodoh mereka tidak panjang.

Hasil perkahwinan yang dibina sejak 31 Mac 1988 itu, mereka dikurniakan dua orang anak, Mohd Alif Haikal, 17 tahun; dan Mohd Alfeq Haikal, 13 tahun.

Menurut Noraniza, anak-anak sedih dengan keputusan tersebut tetapi menerimanya dengan pasrah. Bagaimanapun beliau berkata, hubungannya dengan Fareez tetap baik demi anak-anak.

Buat masa ini, Noraniza berkata anak-anaknya masih tinggal dengan Fareez dan beliau akan bertemu dengan mereka pada hujung minggu.

Noraniza yang sibuk selaku Pengarah Urusan, Taman Mini Malaysia & Mini Asean, Leboh Ayer Keroh, Melaka, berkata: 'Ani tidak boleh mengubah rutin kehidupan mereka kerana anak-anak masih bersekolah.

'Kalau ada masa Ani akan bertemu mereka. Lagipun anak-anak sudah besar terpulang kepada mereka untuk ikut siapa.'

Kes perceraian mereka akan disahkan di Mahkamah Syariah.

The Shadow of Mars on Aishwarya Rai

Indian entertainment today rocks the world. Their movies, their stars are ever popular with audiences worldwide. Their faces are recognized and they grace the entertainment industry's major events like the Oscars and Cannes. Still, there appears some beliefs deeply ingrained in the minds of these stars that is threatening the forward-looking approach they profess will take the Indian entertainment industry to greater heights.

The latest to come to terms with this is none other than the darling of Bollywood. Aishwarya Rai is an ex-Miss World and now a leading Bollywood actress striving to make it big in Hollywood. The actress' official authorized Web site boasts of several interviews on western television (Bob Simon's "60 Minutes" interview on CBS television is played regularly on American Airlines in-flight program; David Letterman's "Late Night Show" on CBS television and "Good Morning America" ) where she is being feted and watched keenly as a new face in western cinema. It's ironic that her latest role in the just released Hollywood movie -- "Mistress of Spices" (a very sensuous film about the generations old relationship between Indian women and spices), directed by Paul Berges, is adding a lot of spice in her real life as well.

As claimed by several sources, the planetary position of Mars in her horoscope is the one spoiling the fun. For the uninitiated, Indians strongly believe that planets and their positions play an important role in their everyday lives. The planet Mars symbolizes action (having being depicted as a warrior) which means aggression and is, therefore, synonymous with competition, argument and conflict. If unchecked, Mars could lead to domination, violence and injury.

The catch lies in it's correct balance to negate the malefic effects in the lives of such people. A lucky few possess this dynamic balance.

On the positive side, a strong Mars gives energy, independence, will and self-confidence to carry out endeavors. The marriage has now been put in the cold-store. According to sources, the Bachchan family is in no mood to take any chances with Abhishek whose career has just taken off. Aishwarya is a "manglik" and the presence of this planet position in her horoscope chart may well predict doom for their son.

Father Amitabh Bachchan and mother Jaya Bachchan had accepted Aishwarya to be their son's bride provided the bride-to-be's family simply perform a religious ceremony (havan) to contain the ill-effects of Mars. The bride's brother who does not believe in astrology, has advised her against it. This explains why the couple has split.

Only two weeks ago, everything was fine between Aishwarya and Abhishek. Aishwarya had been talking to her close friends about marrying him. Abhishek, too, had told some of his producer/director friends that he would do their films if they signed Aishwarya opposite him.

You still have successful Indians -- be it actors, politicians, businessmen and industrialists -- wearing stones encased in rings on most of their fingers. The business of astrologers survives, their clientele continues to grow. Who is responsible if Aishwarya has been a victim? Time only will tell.
