When she was starting off in showbiz, according to Dante Castillo of Porshe Jeans, Bea Alonzo抯 only wish was to have her tarpaulins lining up the Edsa skyline.
That抯 done (besides Dante filling up Bea抯 bedroom with mock tarps the day after she told him of her wish)! Now that she is an in-demand teleserye star, product endorser, blockbuster movie star and multi-awarded performer, she has gone a long way in showbiz in a matter of five years. She did it with persistence, loyalty, flexibility and a willingness to improve herself. The down-to-earth Bea turns 19 today. She had an advance celebration with select media members last Thursday when Star Magic抯 Rikka Dylim tendered a birthday dinner for her at Cheapsteaks at ABS-CBN抯 The Loop.
In my last three encounters with Bea, I have noticed something different about her.
The first time was at the media launch of Maging Sino Ka Man, in which she stars with John Lloyd Cruz, Sam Milby and Anne Curtis. She wore a cocktail dress, the color and cut of which I failed to note. While John Lloyd entertained those present with witty answers, Bea was prim and proper, though warm when she talked. This brought flashbacks of her first meet-the-media interview together with Angelene Aguilar and Pia Romero when she was just 14. Although he was a newbie then, she had the most star quality. Preppy as she was and a bit chubby, her fine mestiza features and hunger for success as an actress stood out. I knew she would rise above Angelene and Pia and that抯 precisely what happened.
The second time was at the Wowowee remote telecast in San Fernando, Pampanga last Saturday when she played co-contestant in Willie of Fortune and won. She wore another cocktail-style dress, purplish this time around, as she moved in very lady-like manner in high heels. By the way, she won the game and based on her information, she will share half of the prize with her PA (production assistant) who is pregnant. I noticed that there抯 definitely something different with her behavior. She was moving slower in a calculated manner. When she won the contest and she had to run the long stretch of the front stage, she walked while everybody ran. Host Willie Revillame had to encourage her, 揃ilisan mo Bea! |
