Tevez To Undergo Intense Training Ahead Of Manchester City's Clash With Blackburn Rovers
'El Apache' will take on a week of rigorous testing to be fit in time for the start of the season...
Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez will go through some heavy-duty training before Mark Hughes decides whether he should play the pint-sized hitman against Blackburn Rovers.
The fact that Argentina coach Diego Maradona has acknowledged the Citizens' plea to leave 'El Apache' out of the national squad for the friendly against Russia has given the Eastlands club a window of opportunity to get their forward to focus on his fitness.
Hughes is doubtful if the striker can make the starting line-up at Ewood Park, but remains hopeful that Tevez will be fit in time for the first game of the season.
"I would like to think Carlos will play a part on Saturday, although we will have to see how this week goes before we decide whether to start him or not," Hughes is quoted in the Irish Independent as saying.
"He has been a bit frustrated because he has not been able to put any weight on the heel for the vast majority of pre-season and has been chomping at the bit to play."
The manager focussed on the positives drawn from the recent friendly against Scottish heavyweights Celtic, during which the Argentine came on as a substitute. He was given a roaring welcome by the fans, and managed to impress the boss as well.
"...He looked really sharp when he came on [against Celtic], and the reaction he got from the crowd was fantastic," beamed 'Sparky'.
"He is going to do great things for us. His energy gives the team a trigger and a focus for when we want to press and engage people. He is going to be important."
Meanwhile, the gaffer is confident that Kolo Toure will be able to return in time for the season opener, after the Ivorian suffered a hip injury.

Law: City's 0-1-9 formation
Denis Law believes Manchester City are so well off for strikers, manager Mark Hughes could employ a 0-1-9 formation.
The former Scotland forward, who wore the colours of Manchester United and City, has been astonished at Hughes' business in the transfer market.
Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz have arrived in the summer. With Robinho and Craig Bellamy already on board, City are spoiled for choice.
"They are making an effort to compete with the top guys and it will be very interesting to see what goes on," said Law at an ESPN-promotion.
"It seems to be that they're buying a lot of forwards. It could be a 0-1-9 formation!"
City are hoping to put pressure on the top four and Law added: "They are making a determined effort to get up there.
"They realise if they can do that, they're into Europe and that's what they really want.
"I think we'll all be interested 10 weeks into the league to see how they do."
