I am new to this post. I am keen to study aikido. However I am not sure as to which style. Please advice

Aikikai is an organization led by founder's grandson, Moriteru Ueshiba. Aikikai is a mainstream of Aikido, but it's also maintaining so much with spiritual matter. Yoshinkan is always considered as hard stream Aikido, Yoshinkan is very practical and useful evenly you wanna  protect yourself. Yoshinkan is founded by Gozo Shioda@Little Giant, his body cutting is very small but able to defending against big giant. Ki Society, also known as Ki Aikido or Ki no Kenkyukai, founded by former chief Shihan of Aikikai Hombu Dojo (headquarters in Japanese), Koichi Tohei. Because Tohei's ki concept had conflict with founder's son Kisshomaru Ueshiba (as well as Moriteru's father), so that Tohei left away from Aikikai. Iwama Ryu Aikido was founded by Morihiro Saito, it was just a personal style of Saito. It was make arguement and misunderstanding caused "Iwama Ryu Taijutsu" and "Iwama Ryu Buki Waza" certificates, shortwhile after Morihiro Saito died Iwama Ryu Aikido had become independent style and renamed as "Iwama Shinshin Aiki Shurenkai".  Tomiki Ryu Aikido is founded by Kenji Tomiki, he was also high ranking Judoka. Tomiki Ryu is the only one stream that have sparring competition, but it's seperated to unarmed and defending againts short knife. (That's all, these are major streams of Aikido)

Have a nice day! (Wish it helps)

Aikikai
The Aikikai is the common name for the style headed by Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu, as taught under the auspices of the International Aikido Federation. Most regard this school as the mainline in Aikido development.

In reality, this "style" is more of an umbrella than a specific style, since it seems that many individuals within the organization teach in quite a different manner. The Aikido taught by Ueshiba Doshu is generally large and flowing, with an emphasis on a standard syllabus and little or no emphasis on weapons training.

Yoshinkan
This is the style taught by the late Gozo Shioda. Shioda Soke studied with O Sensei from the mid-30s. After the war, he was invited to begin teaching and formed the organization known as the Yoshinkan. Unlike many later organizations, the Yoshinkan has always maintained friendly relations with the Aikikai both during and after O Sensei's life.

The Yoshinkan is a harder style of Aikido, generally concerned with practical efficiency and physically robust techniques. It is taught to many branches of the Japanese Riot Police Force.

The international organization associated with the Yoshinkan style of Aikido is known as the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation (IYAF), and has active branches in many parts of the world.

Actually is nothing different, one thing different thing is Yoshinkan is realistic, combative and quite useful for protecting yourself. Aikikai is quite practical also, but it's more focusing about spritual matters.

Do you forget already i'm an Aikikai member? How dare an Aikikai member train under Sonny Loke Yoshinkan trainer? I'm doing Aikikai style of Aikido, never related with Yoshinkan style. OK? It's can't being logical, what do you think about? I repeat, i'm Aikikai Aikido trainee not Yoshinkan.

Sorry if I offended you . Did not mean to . Hope you can excuse a beginner . Because I thought some  aikidoist may have
tried training with a different style, found it unsuitable and switched to a different style.

OK, That's great because at least you know that Aikikai and Yoshinkan are 2 different things. Actually, just PJ only has only one Yoshinkan dojo. Regarding Aikikai, Damansara is too far already.

Lately, Bangsar Aikikai dojo has associates with a dojo at Japan called "Kobe Senta Dojo". I don't know or not that had i told you that Marcus Chan teaches Aikido at Subang, Tmn Tun and Melaka beside Bangsar, anyway we're proud that Aikido in Malaysia spreads to whole the Malaysia.
