GINA ALAJAR ON ANNULMENT: IT'S A GREAT RELIEF!

MANILA, DECEMBER 7, 2006 (STAR) FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo - "It must be exciting to be a mistress!"

If you hear it from Gina Alajar who, I hasten to make it clear, has never been one, your first reaction is to ask her, "You wanna try it?"

Nope! It抯 not in character. Gina was joking with Funfare Sunday night before the presscon for Mano Po 5: Gua Ay Di (Chinese for "I love you!"), directed by Joel Lamangan, where she and Tirso Cruz III reprise their Mano Po 1: My Family roles as a Chinese couple, with Christian Bautista as her son.

The subject of mistresses (yes, plural!) cropped up when Funfare asked Gina how she felt now that her marriage to Michael de Mesa had been finally annulled. As in the first Mano Po, Gina and Tirso deliver their lines in Fookien, which they did with remarkable ease, thanks to their Chinese tutor who stayed on the set.

Does she feel any regret and/or bitterness?

"No," said Gina. "I feel great relief."

You see, the case dragged on for two years (it was Michael who filed the case) and when the verdict was handed down last May, Gina抯 children (Ryan, Andrew "AJ" James and Geoff), were surprised. "We thought it had been annulled a long time ago!" Like Gina, they also felt "relieved."

During the whole trial, Gina never appeared in court, leaving her lawyer to represent her.

Bukan, si Gina Alajar tu mak si Geoff Eingenmann. Dia ni pelakon zaman 80an. Geoff Eingenmann ni dari keluarga prominent kat Filipina tu sebab keturunan dia memang dari golongan pelakon. Semua adik beradik dia berlakon dan mereka kontrak dengan GMA-7 kecuali si Geoff jer yang dengan ABS-CBN. Elizabeth tu nama dia Cherie-Pie

Recently, QTV-11 came up with a list of the 10 most exciting young actors on the show Pinaka hosted by Pia Guanio.

And here are the 10 as they were voted by a panel that included a scriptwriter, a TV director, a show producer, and a tabloid writer.

1. Piolo Pascual
2. Dennis Trillo
3. John Lloyd Cruz
4. Jericho Rosales
5. Patrick Garcia
6. Marvin Agustin
7. Dingdong Dantes
8. Cogie Domingo
9. Diether Ocampo
10. Carlo Aquino

Mark Herras, Richard Gutierrez, Polo Ravales, John Pratts failed to make it to the top 10.

Now, someone who requested anonymity e-mailed me this list and at the same time asked me if I agreed or not with the list. He also requested me to come up with my own list.

It is not quite easy to come up with a list, because my criteria will be far different from the criteria used by the panel on Pinaka to evaluate each of the actors on the list.

However, it抯 irresistible not to give in to the request as it also allows me to express myself regarding this Pinaka list.

For those who want my opinion on the list, here抯 my own list of the 10 most exciting young actors working either on television or in the movies. My criteria are: screen presence (must be strong to keep my eyes glued on the screen); talent (at the least must show some potential if not fully developed), and last, popularity among the audience, a requirement to keep the actor working.

2. John Lloyd Cruz. From a chubby teener, he抯 grown to be a mature performer. He has a face that affects the audience in an empathic manner. All he need to become a real great actor is proper motivation to do beyond standard soap mannered acting.

This Eigenmann chooses to be Kapamilya

You see Mark Gil in Atlantika and his son Gabby Eigenmann is a fixture on the Sunday noontime variety SOP and every now and then plays a role in the network抯 primetime drama series. Cherie Gil is la primera contrafigura in the afternoon soap Now and Forever: Dangal.

AJ Eigenmann, Michael de Mesa and Gina Alajar抯 son, is in Pinakamamahal, an afternoon soap weekdays on the Kapuso network. But his brother, Geoff Eigenmann, has chosen to be on the other side.

Recently, Geoff signed with ABS-CBN Star Magic family. And the move is considered by fellow Kapamilya as a homecoming of sorts. After all, as a little boy, Geoff was in the very popular Ang TV. He was only eight years old then.

Coming from a reputable family of actors, Geoff抯 decision to be like his parents didn抰 come as a surprise. In fact, it had been anticipated that he抎 follow in the footsteps of Michael de Mesa and Gina Alajar.

As a kid, more than a decade past, Geoff used to tag along his parents to tapings. His education in show business was already beginning then. His interest in what his parents did for a living soon became part of his consciousness as he began to be part of show business. Yet, his biggest break would be a starring role梟ot in a television show or a motion picture梚n a television commercial for Globe.

Not a few noticed the good looks and the charming uneven lop-sided smile. In just a span of two weeks, people are talking about this guy up in the mountains who needed a load for his mobile phone.

What followed was a dizzying baptism into the realm of show business. He landed a role in ABS-CBN抯 Hiram with Anne Curtis, Dina Bonnevie and Kris Aquino. Not long after that soap had concluded, he is in Ikaw ang Lahat Sa Akin with Claudine Barretto, Diether Ocampo, Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz.

From television, he hopped onto the movie bandwagon with a starring role in two blockbuster movies桞ecuz of U and the recent First Day High梑oth from Star Cinema.

His potential as an actor has become obvious, yet Geoff doesn抰 want to be confined to just creating characters. He also wants to be known as Geoff Eigenmann. And so he is accepting a hosting stint in ASAP Fanatic with Luis Manzano and John Prats. He is also one of the VJs of Studio 23抯 MYX and regular hosts in ASAP

GEOFF Eigenmann and Nikki Gil were seen holding hands in a recent showbiz event. Are they sweethearts?

"Nope," Geoff answered, when we bumped into Geoff at the corridor of ABS-CBN. "But I wish she were really my girlfriend."

Geoff admitted he is courting Nikki. They have been friends for a long time. They were classmates in high school.

In college, Geoff went to De la Salle and took a course in physical therapy. He gave up his studies when he became busy with showbiz.

Nikki studies at the Ateneo de Manila University. She抯 graduating next year.

Geoff抯 mom, Gina Alajar, will reportedly become a lola soon, courtesy of her eldest son, Ryan. The actress says that although Ryan and his girlfriend is not married, the couple stays with her.
