Kanjani8 announces all-prefecture tour

On Sunday, Kanjani8 performed their first dome concert at the Kyocera Dome Osaka. During the performance, the group announced that they will be doing a national tour from May to September, traveling to 47 venues in all 47 prefectures of Japan. The tour will begin at the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa. The schedule includes two days at the Tokyo Dome and four days at the Osaka-jo Hall. An official announcement with more details will be made in the middle of next month.

Hirosue to serve as navigator in drama special

On March 12, NTV will broadcast a drama special titled "Serendip no Kiseki" in its 10:00pm time slot. The special is composed of three stories, based on writer Kundo Koyama's short story "Film." As the title suggests, the theme of the drama is serendipity.
  
The three stories follow an advertising OL (Yoshino Kimura), a restaurant producer (Ikki Sawamura), and a patissier (Atsushi Ito). Although the stories are separate, they will be connected by an "angel" from above (Ryoko Hirosue), serving as the drama's navigator.
 
Actor Ken Kaneko, who recently retired as a competitive fighter, will make his acting return as a taxi driver in Ikki Sawamura's story.
The theme song for the special will be Motohiro Hata's "Bokura wo Tsunagu Mono," which goes on sale on March 7.

Onitsuka announces return with new single

Singer-songwriter Chihiro Onitsuka, who has been on apparent hiatus since early 2005, will be returning with a new single in early summer. She began recording several songs last spring, and plans to release a new album as well. The music is being produced by Takeshi Kobayashi.

'Ai no Rukeichi' drama special airs in March

NTV will broadcast a 2-part drama special based on Junichi Watanabe's novel, "Ai no Rukeichi," which was adapted as a movie that opened last month. The two parts will air on March 20 and 21, at 9:00pm. Goro Ki#ani and Saki Takaoka will co-star.

Shota Matsuda to co-star in 'LIAR GAME'

Actor Shota Matsuda (who plays Soujiro Nishikado in "Hana Yori Dango") will appear in Fuji TV's new drama series "LIAR GAME," which stars Erika Toda (who plays Misa in the recent box-office "Death Note 2 the Last Name") as the college student Nao Kanzaki. Matsuda will play the role of the swindler Akiyama, who helps out Kanzaki when she becomes involved in a mysterious money game.
The series begins on April 14 and will air on Saturdays at 11:00pm.

Singer Suga Shikao (40) cancelled a radio appearance due to acute bronchitis. He was scheduled to appear on the local radio station FM Sendai, but has been advised to rest. He has a couple of concerts coming up at the end of the month in Tokyo to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his debut.

Kikukawa stars in new NHK Saturday drama

Rei Kikukawa will star in the short drama series "Hoshizora Hospital." It will air in NHK's "dodra" time slot (Saturday 9:00pm), and is expected to last for six episodes. Broadcast begins on April 7.
Kikukawa plays the role of a genius doctor who keeps her heart shut off from others, but through contact with her patients, she gradually learns to open up. Toshio Kakei, Takeshi Kaga, and Masahiko Tsugawa also appear in the series.

Akikawa's 'Sen no Kaze' surpasses 'Mononoke'

Tenor Masafumi Akikawa continues to break records. His single "Sen no Kaze ni Natte" has been selling incredibly well since his first-time appearance at last year's Kohaku Uta Gassen, even though the single originally debuted last May. Last month, the single became the first by a classical artist to reach #1 on the charts.
This past week, "Sen no Kaze ni Natte" sold about 73,000 copies. This puts the song's total sales so far at about 534,000 copies, breaking the record for a single by a classical artist. The previous record-holder was Yoshikazu Mera's 1997 single "Princess Mononoke," the theme song to the animated film of the same name. That song sold 504,000 by the time it left the charts in July 1998.
Akikawa also holds the records for highest-ranking album and best-selling album by a Japanese vocalist with his recent "Ifu Dodo"; it has peaked at #14 and has sold over 69,000 copies to date.

Mika Nakashima headed for marriage?

It was recently discovered that Mika Nakashima (24) is in a serious relationship with actor Masatoshi Nagase (40). The two first met when they both appeared in the 2002 drama series "Shiritsu Tantei Hama Mike," and they got together immediately after the divorce of Nagase and Kyoko Koizumi in 2004.
Some members of Nakashima's family believe that marriage may be near. Nakashima's agency confirmed the relationship, but denied that there have been talks of marriage.
