i've read the book..  i think all muslims agree that Islam is perfect.. yang menyebabkan Islam kucar-kacir adalah sebab orang Islam sendiri pun masih confuse, masih pilih-pilih part mana nak pakai suruhan Islam dan part mana tak nak ikut, depending on situations that suit us, as if we have a choice.. dan IAM adalah compilation kisah-kisah sebegini.... IMO, isu-isu yang dibangkitkan memang tak ada jalan pintas, zina, lesbian, gay, arak, etc dah terang-terangan haram.. jalan yang terbaik adalah mendekatkan diri pada Allah, macam kata kawan saya, ramai muslim beriman dan berilmu tentang Islam, yang masih kurang adalah taqwa..

ini pandangan saya saja, dan saya bukannya arif sangat pun..

Lepas baca buku ini, i cadang you tengok Shrek 3 kerana Shrek 3 conclude apa yang tidak ada didalam buku ini.

i just finished reading the book. imho, dina's writing & perception reflects the true reality of malays muslims. in fact, i think dina hit the nail right. this book can strengthen our faith, even dina became sort of missionaries , with her simple explanation about rukun iman, rukun islam, Prophet Muhammad SAW's journey (Isra' Mikraj). Her writings reflected what malays are thinking & doing, for example, some of non wearing malays, who are not wearing head scarves but planning to do so in future time, why we wear our tudungs? (some just followed tradition). dina even quote some quranic verses.

i think the writings are true view of malays' life. yes, islam is perfect, syumul, but we the ummah, always have our own interpretations. a good read, but you need an open mind to read her book.

Dina Zaman: best selling author
We got the first shipment of Dina Zaman's book I Am Muslim on the 3rd of March. The major bookshops started getting their hands on the book on Monday the 5th of March. The first print run of 3000 books was sold out within a month, with the bookshops clamouring for more. We are just into the second week of the third month and we are out of the second print run of another 3000. We have currently ordered another 3000 copies from the printers.

With 6000 sold in the first two months, this must be the fastest selling Malaysian book in English ever. Rehman Rashid and Karim Raslan have probably sold more in total. But the Dina Zaman juggernaut has just only started. The Malay version will be out soon.

The vast majority of the feedback received so far has been positive. "Thank you for writing the book Dina. Thank you for airing these issues. You have done us all a big favour." But not everyone, it appears, is happy. Dina has received threatening phone calls, rude emails, has been called names, branded an apostate and received "How dare you" hate mail - exactly the type of close-mindedness she rallies against.

Dina needs our support. Support her, post her a note.

finally just finish reading the book

Its a fresh take on issues pertaining to our Religion Islam...and its a fun ways of tackling and highlighting the issues....Dina's covers almost everything that we as a Muslim in this 21st Century are grappling with / abt....sexuality...idealogy..community..and ourself

Having lived in the west myself...I do understand some of her queries and why there were so many question that we've raised abt our religion...much to the chagrin of the elders...who views our queries and brand us as a non-believer....while what we want to do most...is to immersed ourself in our Religion so that...kita boleh menghayati nya dengan lebih aman dan indah...

Saya seronok membaca buku ini...kerana dia tahu apa issues2 yang ingin di kupas...jangan pandang remeh terhadap 'masaalah' yang sedang membelenggu umat Islam am nya.....kerana ketakutan kita untuk bersuara banyak hal2 ehwal tentang Islam yg kita tidak dapat tahu

Interesting juga bila dia compare Islam yg dipratikkan di negara Indonesia...dan juga Malaysia...and she was spot on bila dia merujuk pada pandangan Umum  mengenai Ketakwaan atau KeIslaman pegangan sesorang itu dari segi mereka berpakaian ...

Betapa dalam menilai keimanan sesorang itu kita tak harus mengukur dari kopiah yang mereka pakai....atau betapa labuh tudung yg mereka sarungkan...harap tiada yang berkecil hati dengan comment ini...tetapi pada Dut itulah hakikatnya...betapa ramai yg telah tertipu dengan 'appearance' sesorang....Iman itu terletak di dada kita

Yang paling membuat Dut terkejut ialah topic mengenai homosexuality.... .bagaimana seorang yg warak itu boleh 'membenarkan' dirinya menjadi gay and stay gay...and at the same time percaya yg apa yg dia lakukan tidak bertentangan dengan ajaran Islam

Juga mengenai wanita bertudung yg mengaku dirinya seorang lesbian

My recommendation..bacalah buku ini...walaupung ianya boleh dianggap sebagai controversy...sometimes we need such an upfront approach dalam menunjukkan kepincangan terhadap apa yg berlaku dalam masyarakat dan juga Agama kita

Its a great reading...and will reread it again

i like how she mentioned that she becomes better muslim abroad
i feel the same way too
and how orang melayu nih kecoh sangat pasal nak pakai telekung
padahal dalam quran suruh tutup aurat jek time semayang

love the sincere tones in this book

buku yang misleading ni pun jadi favorite.. tak perlu pergi oversea, pergi supermarket pun sibuk cari surau.. bak kata my spouse. hi.. hi..

Ameenya, when i first read it, I was a little skeptical as well. Do u mind sharing your thots? Becoz i cannot put a finger to wht is nagging me after i finished reading it. Rasa mcm "is this for real?" u can do via pm if u wish.

misleading in what sense?

aren't all books opened for different kinds of intepretations....depending on the readers

Dina Zaman is a good satirist..

Related in the sense.. Dina's book consists of stories yang disukai oleh pembaca-pembacanya especially to the generation yang konon-kononnya self-proclaimed open minded manakala articles agama atau yang sewaktu dengannya etc pula consists of something yang membosankan or outdated.. dan tidak mungkin menjadi personal favorite, recommended book, critical reading etc dan hanya menjadi sekadar hiasan.. bookholder.. serta dibaca hanya apabila adanya urusan-urusan seperti kecelakaan, kematian, keinginan dan yang sewaktu dengannya.

contoh: mengapa mak dina pakai tudung? mengapa dina tak pakai tudung? adakah dah justify jika dah ada intention untuk pakai tudung?
ok.. ok.. at least tak pakai tudung pun pandai mengaji..


tak macam yang pakai tudung tapi lesbian.. hi.. hi..

tu baru masuk bab tudung, belum masuk bab kahwin etc. rosak.. rosak..

in the sense, ia boleh mempengaruhi orang-orang yang blur especially kalau ditulis with open-ended statement.. you know, many interpretation.

bak kata my spouse, dina zaman seolah-olah bagi hint yang it is okay to drink if you want to socialize! that is my spouse interpretation..

It is okay to have sex luar nikah as long as you pray 5 times a day! i am still good muslim kan?

Tak perlu kahwin, kan dapat spouse tah apa-apa.. betul ke ni?

But, i am +ve, if i have problems with my religion, for sure, i will not ask this kakak for answer.

My conclusion:

Shrek 3 - penyesalan, repent
Hot Fuzz - niat tak menghalalkan cara.. for the greater good!
Transformer - too much hype like IAM

My sifoo categorykan this kakak as orang kembali kembali, this type of people adalah orang yang selalu mendapat hidayah

rasanya dia lebih nak tunjukkan camne some ppl kat malaysia nih daripada nak advocate cara hidup macam tuh
some of us sometimes are too comfortable being Malay Muslim
sampai terlupa ajaran islam sebenar

few example: cam cerita orang melayu islam yg suka jumpa bomoh, cerita datin2 yg anggap Islam is fashionable by berguru dengan the hottest ustazah, spend 30k for umrah

maybe some stories are too controversy
cam gay muslim
kita in denial, padahal we are surrounded by gay culture...esp celebrity kita
and i think that's why dina brought up this issue dalam buku dia
to show that there is gay (or ex gay) ppl yg rasa mereka good muslim...tapi are they?
in the end, who are we to judge these kind of ppl?
(not that im advocating that kind of lifestyle)

sometime some ppl memang ada mentaliti Islam dia lebih bagus dari orang lain
padahal mereka sangat judgemental, dan sikap macam tuh sebenarnya memburukkan lagi agama itu sendiri
