Oshima Yuko receives “Cut Above Award for Outstanding Debut” at JAPAN CUTS
It’s been revealed that AKB48 member Oshima Yuko will be receiving the “Cut Above Award for Outstanding Debut” at the North American Japanese film festival, ‘JAPAN CUTS‘.
Oshima expressed her joy saying, “I’ve never received an award as an actress, so when I heard that I’ve been acknowledged at a film festival in New York, I felt very honored.”
Oshima plays the heroine in the upcoming film, ‘Yamikin Ushijima-kun‘, which is based on a manga by Manabe Shouhei. The movie is set to open in theaters on August 25th.
“This time, I played a difficult character who wanders from light to darkness. There were many times I was troubled while playing it,” Oshima reflected. “From now on, I want to participate in even more films as the actress Oshima Yuko. I also want to polish myself as a person.”
‘JAPAN CUTS’ is North America’s biggest Japanese film festival that will be held for the 6th time this year. Previously, movies such as “Kokuhaku“, “Viyon no Tsuma“, “Death Note“, “Fish Story“, and “Kamome Shokudo” have been screened at this festival.

AKB48 announces title of Tokyo Dome concert
On July 10th, AKB48 held a ‘birthday festival’ at AKB48 Theater in Akihabara to celebrate Maeda Atsuko’s 21st birthday.
As this will be Maeda’s last ‘birthday festival’ as a member of AKB48, she expressed, “I have a lot of dreams. I want to repay everyone by making those dreams come true little by little. It’s a treasure in my lifetime to be able to hold my last birthday festival on the day of my birthday as a member of AKB48.”
During this event, captain Takahashi Minami announced that the title of their upcoming Tokyo Dome concert will be ‘AKB48 in TOKYO DOME ~1830m no Yume~‘. 1,830m represents the distance between AKB48 Theater and Tokyo Dome. Although it’s rather close by, it was a far dream for the girls to reach. “I walked 1,830m from the Theater to Tokyo Dome. It was really close. But… far. It’s a goal line that took 7 years to reach, and it’s also our starting line,“ Takahashi commented.
Additionally, during Team B’s Osaka concert on July 10th, member Masuda Yuka announced that she would be withdrawing from the Tokyo Dome concert. Because Masuda was chosen to play the lead in Miyamoto Amon’s upcoming musical, ‘Wiz ~Oz no Mahoutsukai~‘, her lessons overlapped with the concert rehearsals.
‘AKB48 in TOKYO DOME ~1830m no Yume~’ will be held at Tokyo Dome from August 24th to the 26th. Meanwhile, Maeda Atsuko’s graduation concert will be held on August 27th.

She also did “Virtual Clothes Changing Show” in which colorful images reflect by the projector on Kashiwagi’s white one piece.
At the live event, there was a big surprise for Kashiwagi which was announced by Nagura Jun (of comedian trio Neptune) who belongs to the same agency as Kashiwagi. Nagura gave her a message from producer, Akimoto Yasushi, that was posted on Google+. It says, “Though I could not make it to your live since the meeting was prolonged, I am announcing this on Google+. I am making Kashiwagi Yuki debut as solo. I’m entranced by Kashiwagi’s ballads. You don’t have to worry about ‘French Kiss‘ since the unit will proceed as well.” Listening to the message, Kashiwagi could not put her face up for a while, and said, “When a surprise and joy come together, I can’t say any words. I can feel that dreams can come true.”
During the encore, fellow French Kiss members, Takajo Aki and Kuramochi Asuka made their appearance as surprise guests, and they all performed the unit’s new song “Romance Privacy” (to be released on July 18th).

AKB48’s Shinoda Mariko reveals her desire for marriage
On July 17th, AKB48’s Shinoda Mariko held a product launch event for the 2nd collection of her wedding dress brand, ‘Love Mary‘.
When asked about the topic of marriage, Shinoda revealed, “I want to eventually get married. I will think about marriage after I graduate from AKB48. I want to start love after graduating.”
On this day, tv/radio personality Sakajo Miki announced her pregnancy at 53 years of age. Shinoda commented, “Congratulations. It gave me courage. Maybe I don’t have to get married until I’m in my 50’s.”
At this event, Shinoda got to wear 2 of her dresses, while 3 other models also appeared wearing colored dresses. She smiled as she said, “I want to wear them all. My wedding ceremony? I want to have it overseas. I want to have it many times. When it comes to wedding dresses, I want to wear many of them.” Regarding her ideal type, she revealed. “I like someone who’s playful. I want to be able to act stupid together. My type is someone who’s mischievous.”
Additionally, Shinoda was questioned about Maeda Atsuko’s graduation as well as Sashihara Rino’s transfer to HKT48. “Things haven’t changed. Everyone is carefree. Acchan, since her graduation was decided, she’s been open and cheerful. Sasshi comes back on programs, so the atmosphere doesn’t really change.” She continued, “But she has to go back and forth from Fukuoka to Tokyo, so she seems to be physically worn out.”
The theme of Shinoda’s 2nd collection is “gorgeous adult”. It will be available at ceremonial halls and dress shops starting in spring of 2013.

AKB48 to be featured in Disney’s animated movie “Wreck-It Ralph”
In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new movie “Wreck-It Ralph”, bad guy Ralph goes on an adventure with other video game characters to prove that he is really a good guy.
The video games Ralph travels to go from the ‘80s up to our modern day video games and one of the best ways to differentiate these games is through their music. Producer Clark Spencer said, “Music is another way to set the stage and make these worlds completely different.” The score has been composed by composer Henry Jackman (“Winnie the Pooh,” “X-Men: First Class”).
However, the filmmakers took it to the next step and got unexpected artists to help. One of those artists will be AKB48. AKB48 will be featured in the video game ‘Sugar Rush’, which is described as a candy-coated cart-racing game in a land of sweets. Spencer said, “We’ve always thought of Sugar Rush – with its nod to anime – as a game that may have originated in Japan. So we went to Japan and got the hottest J-pop group to perform the song that really sets the tone for the ‘90s-era cart-racing game: young and hip.”
AKB48’s new song for the film is appropriately titled, “Sugar Rush”.
‘Wreck-It Ralph’ will hit theaters on November 2, 2012 and the soundtrack will be available on October 30, 2012.

Oshima Yuko & Matsui Jurina are W center for AKB48’s 28th single
AKB48 performed their upcoming single, “UZA“, for the very first time during the opening of their 3rd Janken Tournament at Nippon Budokan.
The recent graduation of Maeda Atsuko kept fans wondering on who would take over her position of center for AKB48’s upcoming singles. It turns out that Oshima Yuko and Matsui Jurina have been chosen as double centers for their 28th single, “UZA”, which is due out on October 31st.
Matsui, who belongs to both AKB48 and SKE48, will be challenging herself as center for a song to which the choreography is said to have the “highest degree of difficulty in AKB48 history”. This is her first time claiming center since she was selected to become double center with Maeda in “Ogoe Diamond” back in October 2008.
As a special version for the tournament, AKB48 took the stage with 37 professional back-up dancers. During the interlude, the dancers and members unfolded a dance battle and excited the crowd of 12,000 fans.
Aside from Oshima and Matsui, the senbatsu members for “UZA” are Shimazaki Haruka, Watanabe Miyuki (AKB48/NMB48), Miyawaki Sakura (HKT48/first senbatsu), Yokoyama Yui, Minegishi Minami, Sashihara Rino (HKT48), Yamamoto Sayaka (NMB48), Kojima Haruna, Shinoda Mariko, Matsui Rena (SKE48), Kashiwagi Yuki, Itano Tomomi, Takahashi Minami, and Watanabe Mayu.

AKB48’s Matsui Sakiko to host the “79th NHK Nationwide School Music Competition”
AKB48’s Matsui Sakiko has been chosen to host the “79th NHK Nationwide School Music Competition”, which will air from October 6 to the 8th on NHK E-Tele. The competition is commonly referred to as NCon and is the biggest choral competition in Japan. More than 2000 schools participate every year from every age range.
Every year, NCon chooses a J-POP artist for the students to make a rendition. Previous arrangements include Angela Aki’s “Tegami ~Haikei Juugo no Kimi e~” and Ikimonogakari’s “YELL”, and for 2012, YUI’s “fight” was chosen for the middle school group.
Matsui will be debuting with her own piano instrumental album “Kokyuu Suru Piano”, and she is currently enrolled in her university’s school of music. When she was in middle school, she was part of her music club and appeared at NCon for all three years. She says that she often hums the set piece of music from then even now.
Matsui said, “I went to the competition every year, and I watched the national contest every year on TV with my mom, so I was really happy when this was brought up. The event will be broadcast live, so I’ll probably be nervous, but I want to do my very best.”
