Singaporean Rosdee Ismail, 20, an NSman, obliged but was repaid with violence.

The crook had asked Mr Rosdee to help him retrieve a key which had fallen onto the zinc roof of a two-storey shophouse in a back alley.

After luring Mr Rosdee into the alley, the robber demanded his wallet and handphone. When Mr Rosdee refused, he was attacked with a parang by the robber. Who did not get away with anything.

This happened on Sunday afternoon near a petrol station close to the Causeway.

The bloody attack left three deep gashes on the head and forehead of Mr Rosdee, calling for 20 stitches in a JB hospital.

He was later warded in Changi General Hospital (CGH).

  
But Mr Rosdee's woes were far from over. Although he got to keep his wallet and phone, someone stole his motorcycle which he had left at the petrol station.

The ugly events unfolded at about 4pm.

Mr Rosdee and his girlfriend, Miss Nur Izzati, 20, had gone to JB on his motorbike to fill up with petrol which is cheaper there.

His regular Shell petrol station is in Jalan Wong Ah Fook, a two-minute drive from the Causeway.

They had planned to return to Singapore immediately after that.

Mr Rosdee told The New Paper from his bed in CGH yesterday: 'After we got the petrol, a man in jeans and a black leather jacket approached us.

  
'He said he had accidentally dropped his key from his home window onto the zinc roof of a two-storey shophouse. He wanted me to lift him up on my shoulders to retrieve the key.'

The shophouse was beside the petrol station.

The man spoke to Mr Rosdee in Malay. He was clean-shaven, had short black hair and appeared to be in his 20s.

Mr Rosdee agreed to help and went with the man into a back alley about 10m away, while Miss Izzati stayed behind with the motorcycle.

In the alley, the man pointed to the roof.

Mr Rosdee said: 'I looked up. But when I turned to the man again, I saw him take a parang out from inside his jacket.'

Mr Rosdee panicked.

Then the man waved the parang, which was about half an arm in length, and demanded his handphone and wallet.

Mr Rosdee said no firmly. He had about RM20 ($9) in his wallet.

Without warning, the man hacked at his head with the parang.

'I screamed in pain and everything became very blur. Blood was dripping from my head.'

DRENCHED IN BLOOD

He said he cannot remember how many times he was struck, but he had three deep gashes.

The left lens of his glasses was also broken.

He said that despite the pain, he ran back to the petrol station where he collapsed.

Miss Izzati, a part-time waitress, was shocked to see her boyfriend, drenched in blood.

'I had heard someone shouting 'Ah!' from the back alley.'

She said the assailant disappeared after the attack.

'I shouted for help and a few passers-by responded. They called an ambulance and used pieces of cloth to press on (Rosdee's) wounds.'

But there was no sign of the ambulance even after 15 minutes, she said.

'Rosdee was bleeding profusely. I kept calling his name as his eyes were closing. I was so afraid and I was crying.'

A traffic policeman then flagged down a taxi. Miss Izzati took her boyfriend to the Sultan Aminah Hospital, a 10-minute drive away.

While he was being stitched up in the A&E ward, the semi-conscious Mr Rosdee wailed in pain.

'I was screaming for my mother, my girlfriend, everyone. My hands still had blood on them.'

Meanwhile, Miss Izzati called Mr Rosdee's mother and elder brother, Mr Azman Ismail.

Mr Azman, 33, a security officer, said he rushed to JB immediately, and also arranged for his brother to be transferred to CGH in Singapore.

Before they left JB for Singapore, Mr Azman told an employee at the petrol station to help keep aside his brother's Honda motorcycle, worth $3,000, until he would arrange for it to be towed back to Singapore.

'But as the ambulance was leaving for Singapore, the employee called to say the motorcycle was missing. He said they could not explain why.'

At CGH yesterday, Mr Rosdee appeared to be still in pain.

There was a 12cm gash on the left side of his head, a 3cm one near the back of the head, and another 5cm wound on his forehead.

The gashes were so deep it even cracked part of his skull, he said.

His right knee was also badly grazed and his chin slightly scratched when it hit the ground after he collapsed.

The youngest of three siblings, Mr Rosdee said: 'My head feels like it's being squeezed and ants are biting it.'

MUM IN TEARS

Even a twitch of an eye brings pain. And he can sleep only on the right side of his head as his wounds are on the left.

His mother, a 56-year-old housewife who declined to be named, was in tears when she saw her son after the attack.

'I'm so upset. He meant to help the man, yet the man attacked him. I want to warn Singaporeans to be careful when they go to JB.'

Why didn't Mr Rosdee just hand his handphone and wallet over to his assailant?

'I believe he'd have attacked me even if I had given him my handphone and wallet.'

Mr Azman has made a police report at a Bedok police station about the attack and the loss of his brother's motorbike.

Yesterday, he also went to JB to lodge a similar police report. After that, he walked around the area where the attack happened.

'I wanted to see if I could find the motorcycle. But all I saw were dry blood stains at the petrol station,' he said.

Another S'porean shot at same station

IN December 2003, a 28-year-old Singaporean man was shot twice in the head while he was refuelling his car at the Shell petrol station in Jalan Wong Ah Fook.


Two men had approached Mr Calvin Tan Kok Chye, a renovation contractor, as he sat in his Honda Civic hatchback.

They dragged him out of his seat and shot him twice at point-blank range.

They then sped off in the victim's car.

Doctors removed one bullet, but the other bullet was lodged in his head.

He died later.

siot budak ni tak buat salah sey, in fact sedia membantu, dia pegi tetak kepala , its a miracle la budak ni survive.


Mintak2 si attacker tu mampos cepat, or dia sendiri kena tetak sampai jadi spastik..

kalo dia allowed to go on, mampos berapa ramai orang dia will continue to trick and then attack violently.

jahitan kat kepala nya macam epok2 punya tepi.....

TIGA REMAJA DISAMUN DI JB Oleh

TIGA remaja Singapura pulang sehelai sepinggang selepas dirompak sekumpulan belia bersenjata tajam dekat pusat membeli-belah City Square, Johor Bahru, Isnin lalu.

Kejadian itu bermula apabila salah seorang belia itu mendakwa Mohamed Zaireel Mohamed Ismail, Hairul Fahmy Sakroni dan Muhd Edi Putra Zaini, kesemuanya 16 tahun, dikatakan merenung salah seorang rakannya.

Dengan disaksikan orang ramai di pusat membeli-belah yang sesak itu, belia tersebut memaksa mereka bertiga mengikutnya jika tidak akan dirodok dengan senjata tajam yang dipegangnya.

Mereka dibawa ke sudut terpencil dekat bilik tandas lalu dikerumuni tujuh belia lain yang kelihatan seperti samseng.

Mohamed Zaireel dan Khairul Fahmy kemudian dibawa ke bawah jejatas dekat stesen kereta api, di Jalan Tun Abdul Razak.

Mohd Edi enggan ikut mereka dan disuruh tunggu di situ.

Di bawah jejatas itu, kumpulan tersebut merompak kesemua barangan milik kedua-dua remaja itu seperti jam tangan, telefon bimbit, wang dan juga baju serta seluar yang baru dibeli.

Kesemua barang tersebut bernilai lebih $600.

Ketiga-tiga remaja itu mendakwa kumpulan yang sama pernah mengganggu mereka di tempat yang sama Jun lalu tetapi tiada perkara yang tidak diingini berlaku.

Rompakan tersebut berlaku sehari selepas seorang anggota Perkhidmatan Negara, Encik Rosdee Ismail, 20 tahun, ditetak dengan parang dalam satu rompakan di Jalan Wong Ah Fook.

Menceritakan pengalaman me nyeramkan itu, Mohamed Zaireel, pelajar Sekolah Menengah Admiralty, berkata: 'Mula-mula, budak tu kata dia seorang pegawai polis tapi takkan pegawai polis boleh ugut sampai nak rodok kita?

'Tapi kita tak boleh buat apa-apa sebab dekat belakang ada ramai gengnya yang tunggu.'

Mereka bertiga kesal kerana ramai orang lalu lalang dekat jejatas itu tetapi tiada seorang pun yang ambil peduli atau membantu.

Namun, mereka lega kerana kumpulan samseng itu tidak mengambil pasport mereka.

Ketiga-tiga remaja itu kemudian membuat laporan di balai polis berdekatan dan pulang berjalan kaki ke Singapura kerana wang mereka habis disamun.

Caught in Second Link jam, with no loos to use

RECENTLY, I went on a driving trip to Malaysia with my husband and family members. It was an enjoyable trip that was marred by incidents on our return to Singapore via the Second Link.

We returned on a Sunday evening and, as expected, there were long lines of vehicles along the three lanes leading to the Singapore Customs checkpoint. As we waited, we noticed vehicles and coaches using the emergency lanes to speed past the queues.

At first, we did not take much notice and thought that the errant drivers probably had personal emergencies to attend to. Imagine our surprise when we noticed more and more vehicles - cars, vans and buses alike - speeding along the emergency lanes.

Two hours into the queueing, I needed to use the toilet urgently. I took my passport and went off on foot to see if the toilets at the Customs Building could be used.

Just before the building, I saw some police officers controlling the traffic. My request to use the toilets was turned down with the comment that that they were only 'following orders'.

I suggested that perhaps the officers could hold onto my passport as security or check with their superiors but my suggestions were ignored.

Frustrated, I turned back and saw that I was not alone. There were five others - an elderly man, an elderly, frail woman and a desperate mother with her two young children - standing around the temporary police control point, hoping for a chance to use the toilets.

In the end, we cleared Customs and reached Singapore after a wait of three hours.

While I can understand the long queues arising from the need for security checks, I wish to highlight the following concerns:


Who ensures the safe and proper use of lanes leading to the checkpoint? The emergency lanes were used as a convenient 'short cut' by certain vehicles. What if there had been a real emergency?


Are there flexible arrangements for the public's comfort or for the public to answer to emergencies when travellers are caught in the long queues?

While I had merely suffered a temporary physical discomfort, I shudder to think what could have happened to the elderly and the young.


When I commented on the long queues and queue cutting, the police officers replied that 'it's always like this on weekends'. Always like this? Recurring incidents like this can certainly be planned and prepared for. Why the nonchalant attitude?

sudah semakin merbahaya bandar johor bahru ni... semenjak dah tak kerja ni kalau takde perkara penting memang aku tak pergi kat bandar tu...dahlah nampak macam hutan jerr sekarang ni...

dulu selalu tukar duit kat bandar...cuak gak tukar banyak2 ...sekarang tukar kat holiday plaza jerr...

yang buat kerja2 tu semua bukan bebudak johor tapi orang johor jugak yg kena...
